Things have gone poorly for India. The ground fielding and catching has not been clever. Kohli isn't impressed. He's frustrated and annoyed. All that builds up. He hasn't had this for a long time. Let's hope he gets a couple of failures with the bat - there will be more steam coming out of his ears.

Just watching some pictures of England's leading all-time Test wicket-taker James Anderson bowling at good pace in the nets this morning. Not sure he would fancy bowling on this batting-friendly surface all that much but he looks in excellent fettle.

    Eng 450-6

So England resumed this morning on 311-4 and hit seven fours in the opening six overs as Moeen Ali moved to his first overseas century.

Moeen departed for 117 after playing no shot and seeing his off-stump uprooted but Ben Stokes added 99 in 21 overs with Jonny Bairstow, who hit two sixes in a quickfire 46.

Stokes, who made the fastest 250 in Test history with 258 from 198 balls against South Africa at the start of the year, was dropped twice by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha but is unbeaten on 84 and England are well set on 450-6.

It was a splendid morning for England. The first hour had excellent batting from Moeen and Stokes. The pitch is flat and it was good, solid attacking cricket. After Moeen got out, Bairstow and Stokes seemed to feed off each - they got a little carried away. It was interesting and exciting and put England in a great position. They could get 600.

More runs for Stokes, clipping Shami for two into the legside and he will have the chance to become England's third centurion of the innings this afternoon. That 30-over session has seen the tourists add 139 runs for the loss of only two wickets.

Luke Flannigan: Chronic dropping, full tossing and now reverse Fosbury flopping from Jadeja. India looking totally at sea.

Flemming Jensen: England looking good now, but if you add two wickets to the score..........nah, still looking good.

Peter O'Farrell: Brilliant effort this - take the sting out of India attack and then put them to the sword as the 100+ overs fielding bites

You felt it was bound to happen with one of them because they were having a dart at everything, trying to hit every ball. That can't last forever. Bairstow played very well and put England in a great position.

It's a run a ball, like the last 10 overs of a one-day game. England are almost trying to score off every ball - you can't complain about that because it's exciting. But, it gives the bowlers a chance.

Kohli has had so much success as captain and player, but what would happen when things start to go wrong? He's a fiery character, even though he's tried to curb it a bit. It's easy to do that when things are going your way. If he has a couple of failures and India lose, I reckon the wheels might come off.

  19. Eng 430-5published at 119 overs

Jonny's riding his luck in this over from Yadav, though he would have been exceptionally unfortunate to depart to a fiercely struck pull that thudded into the shin pads of mid-wicket and almost rebounds to the adjacent captain Kohli. But Bairstow then miscues one that just loops short of mid-on diving forward. Kohli beginning to simmer with frustration.

We know that England's batting is wobbly, but anyone who called India win 5-0 made a very big statement. It's not easy.
