If I was Kohli, I wouldn't be keeping the seamers on because I've got a new ball. As a captain, you have moments when you're on top and moments when you're under pressure. However, you have to keep control of the game.

Every time I see Ben Stokes play well, I think of Paul Farbrace who saw something in this lad and moved him up to number six. Well done, Paul. It's been a raving success. I've seen a lot of great players and his double-hundred at Cape Town was spectacular.

This new ball has really enhanced England's scoring rate. Stokes cracks Shami for a beautifully struck pull shot to the boundary and it rings out like a gunshot in a wooded glade. Shami beats Stokes with the final ball of the over, it excites the schoolchildren in the crowd, but not the umpire.

The stoutly built Umesh Yadav continues the seam attack with the new ball but it merely flies quicker to the boundary, three fluent strokes into the offside from Moeen finding the ropes, two of them aided by some less than Jonty Rhodes-style fielding.

It looks like Liam Plunkett has popped the question...

Stokes punches two more into the off-side. Remember when he punched that locker in the West Indies? A lot has happened since then.

Moeen deserves that - he played beautifully yesterday. It's been one of his best innings, with no flaws in it.

It's seamer Shami who takes it Geoffrey but Moeen has got his century to the third ball of the morning with a little defensive push. He raises his bat to his colleagues and there is a healthy contingent of England followers to celebrate it too. It has come from 195 balls and it is his fourth in Tests, his first overseas.

This is a good pitch - I wish I was batting on this today. If I was India, I'd be giving the new ball to Ashwin this morning.

Virat Kohli leads his players into the sunshine to excitement of those that have made it to the rather remote location in the western region of India and Moeen and Stokes come down the steps. Moeen will be on strike as he searches for that one run and he will have a new ball to face, after the hosts chose not to take it for 13 overs last night.
