Anand Dahihandekar: My cricketing commute is about getting frustrated with coverage blackouts at some stations! People beside me don't get it !

Goulders: My commute is like a slow over rate. No reasonable excuse for delays!

Yop: A 2 hour train/tube to work usually involves desperately trying to load the feed in between the plethora of tunnels!

Still the tall figure of Umesh Yadav, who has white sunscreen smeared all over his face. He looks like the Ultimate Warrior. When Umesh is too wide, Root transfers his weight into a square drive that burns the carpet. We must be nearing the time for spin.

Most of us think India are a bit short. England will be reasonably pleased but it's still quite a big total - 455 - quite a lot to play with.

On the subject of a cricketing commute, have you ever bonded with a stranger over the cricket? Maybe you've spotted someone else checking the score and identified a kindred spirit? I like to think that we don't just inform, but we bring people together.

Shami is very clever - he bowls bouncers to get the batsman back in the crease and then he bowls the fuller one that nips back.

    Hameed 5, Root 14

Tom, those Manchester trams are familiar to us Salford BBC types. What's the big chap doing behind the lad in the red coat? Looming, slightly sinister. Hameed purses his lips and waits for the charging, bearded Shami. When Shami bangs it in, Hameed sways like a man limbo dancing. It's been a wonderful 40 minutes of fiery Test cricket but England may just have sucked the venom from the wound.

This England second-wicket pair has a combined age of 44. Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq is 42. I wonder what they talk about between overs? Fifa? Catfish and the Bottlemen? Jennifer Lawrence? Hameed waits with his bat raised, perfectly still. Good over from Umesh, but blocking is Hameed's bread and butter. A maiden.

Neil Burns: Time to find a new opening partner for Hameed! ;-)

Adam Hawker: Know I'm about to put the mockers on them but Root & Hameed at the crease together is an image we're going to get very used to.

Variable bounce? No problem to Joe Root, who combats with a shimmy down the track and a whip to square leg for four. Clearly the principles of standing still don't matter when you have the talent of Joseph Root, who follows up with an on-drive so classy you could put it in a little box and give it to your other half as a Christmas present.

I'm just reading that 3.7m people in the UK commute for more than two hours a day. How many of those 3.7m commute and follow the cricket at the same time? Let me know. My cricketing commute is...

Haseeb Hameed is getting a real examination here, with Umesh nipping the ball about north of 90mph, all in front of a baying crowd. Right now, the young man, all helmet and arm guard, is up to the task.

It's a very excitable crowd. England need a partnership of some note just to calm this situation down.

India didn't really bother to test Haseeb Hameed's ticker in Rajkot, now it looks like they might stick a couple up his nose. Whether he is comfortable or not, Hameed is hampered by the suggestion of variable bounce. From first slip, Virat Kohli amps the crowd, waving his arms and clapping. Not only is he the hero, he's the conductor. It's great theatre.

I think on a pitch like this you have got to be looking at playing everything. If it gets too high, you can drop your hands at the last minute.

It really was a three-card trick from Shami. Two balls went across Cook, with the third nipping back to take the top of off and split the stump in two. Could Cook have done more? The front foot didn't really go anywhere. At the other end, Umesh Yadav is touching 90mph, banging the ball in but not getting it to bounce too high. Variable, or just skiddy? Either way, Hameed is in behind it.

Cook was just a little bit timid with his foot movement. There's a hint of movement back in for Shami but Cook is stuck on the crease - he goes nowhere. Alastair Cook is up there with the most mentally tough cricketers in the world, but I wonder if after a day and a half in the field he's a little tired.

    Shami 2-1-2-1

That ball gets better and better with every replay. There was a hint of light between bat and pad, like the eye of a needle. Shami managed to get a camel through there, moving the ball in when it had previously gone away. The seam was pendulum straight. Joe Root is the new man. Shami is in the high 80s. England are immediately under the pump.

    Cook b Shami 2 (Eng 4-1)

Bowled him! Neck and crop! It's broken off stump! It's a wonderful delivery from Mohammed Shami, shaping back and skidding through Alastair Cook, who was late on the defensive stroke. Through the gate, timber everywhere, Vizag going bonkers.
