Francis Fowles: Poached eggs on crumpets, steaming mug of coffee, TMS on the wireless & India all out <500. Great start to the day.

Oliver J: You know it's going to be tough for the England batsmen when Rashid can get wickets on this wicket.

    Cook 2, Hameed 2

Haseeb Hameed is built like a crisp packet. He's so wiry, he should probably avoid using a hair dryer in case it blows him away. A bit like Mr Burns. Still, he has a thousand-mile gaze and a forward defence wider than a door. Umesh Yadav gets a little swing, but Hameed picks him off through the on side.

Strange new-ball field. There's a slip, a fourth slip and a gully. There's a short leg and two men out on the hook. Maybe some short stuff? Sure enough, Cook is barely dragged on to the front foot, all while the crowd continues to scream. Ooofff, this is close, a leading edge evading Shami's outstretched hand. An over that got better as it went on.

Here come the England openers, Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed, the boy seemingly with the keys to the kingdom. Cook, the leftie, scratches at his guard. There's just over an hour to go until tea. Mohammed Shami has the ball.

Grumpy Doug: Good work. Time for the batsmen to dig in!

Andrew Benton: I reckon England will be looking to race to 550+ here then bowl like men possessed in the second innings

Boom!: Not bad after 300 odd for 3 on a puddin' - stick 550 up, job done.

Your alarm was set for 7:30am, wasn't it? You were expecting to wake up to 550-5, weren't you? A Virat Kohli daddy hundred? England have done the bizo today, starting with three wickets in 14 deliveries for Moeen Ali. They were held up by a Ravi Ashwin half-century, but the last three wickets went down for 28 runs. The tourists have a chance to get right into this Test.

So far it's been a highly entertaining match. We have talked about how the wicket has deteriorated - it hasn't obviously done so yet but we assume it will. England have got to get close to this total or life will get very difficult.

Nick Stevens: I woke up dreading 500+ for 6 and Kohli still batting. Now feeling quite chipper.

Rachel T: Come on England! Get batting!!

Remember, India were 311-4 overnight. The way Kohli and Ashwin started, it looked like they might rack up 800. Now, England have a sniff. On a surface that is likely to resemble a box of snakes come Sunday and Monday, they have to post 450 themselves.

I'm quite pleased for Rashid that he picked up those two. I thought he deserved something from this. And it was his old mate Moeen that caught it.

Umesh c Moeen b Rashid 13 (Ind 455 all out)

It was fun while it lasted, but the last-wicket walloping, India's innings and England's very good second-day bowling effort is over. Umesh Yadav nails Adil Rashid out of the screws, but straight to Moeen Ali at cow corner. India are 455 all out. England should be delighted.

I'd be tempted to take off Moeen and toss the ball to Jimmy. I'm sure he'd be delighted to have a little bowl.

Mohammed Shami shuffles out to join Umesh and form the last pair. Umesh, emboldened with the knowledge that he is the senior partner, gives it some humpty. Twice he sweeps/slogs/closes his eyes and swings Moeen Ali to the leg-side fence. Virat Kohli sips on a brew, not yet bothering with his whites. He must have faith.

Rashid has deserved that wicket, he has bowled quite well compared to some of the others. Jayant was furious with himself - he could have had more faith in Umesh who has just played the shot of the day.

    Jayant c Stokes b Rashid 35 (Ind 440-9)

What is it about men named Yadav against the bowling of Adil Rashid? In the last Test, Umesh couldn't resist a swipe, now Jayant falls the same way. Huge slog sweep, top edge, Jayant swearing as the ball gently looped into the hands of James Anderson at point.
