Umesh absolutely laced that one. Moeen thought he would toss one up and, my goodness me, he needed no second invitation to wallop that straight down the ground. It looks like Umesh likes to play his shots.

The stands at this ground track the edge of the boundary in a circular fashion, just like the big stadiums you find in Australia. Moeen Ali has Umesh in his sights, getting one to fizz through and miss the off stump by a coat of varnish. Umesh, an uncomplicated batsman, responds by belting down the ground for four. Maybe time for Adil Rashid?

It must be lovely as a batsman to play your Test career in India. There's low bounce; the pitches are flat; they turn, but so what if you can play spin? There's none of this swing or seam we get in England - it's just straight down. It's very, very difficult work being a seamer in India.

There's lots of noise in the office. Too much for this time of day. I suspect that there's some excitement about Children In Need. Tonight, BBC One from 19:30. Jayant Yadav, a batsman in need of a partner, can take heart from the solidity of his mate Umesh, who is in behind to defend Stokes.

Has you alarm just gone off? You've just missed a wicket. Ben Stokes provided England's fourth of the day after Moeen Ali struck thrice (What? It's a word) in the space of 14 balls this morning. The bad news? It's starting to turn. When they get their chance to bat, and England will hope that is soon, the tourists have to get up towards this India total.

I don't think this total should faze England - it is not out of the realms. They have to get as close to India as they can, whatever it is. Then they're in the game.

England are into the tail now. Umesh Yadav joins namesake Jayant. They would have bitten your hand off for anything south of 450 when we began.

It's one of those that you normally leave but when you've got fifty, you go after it. It was Beautifully bowled - the length was good, a touch wide, saying, 'If you want to have a little dart, I have a chance here.' That's what happened.

Very, very good from Ben Stokes. He's suckered Ravichandran Ashwin in with one of the oldest tricks in the book. Ashwin likes to hang on the back foot, so Stokes pushes him back with a couple of bumpers. When Stokes then goes full, Ashwin's feet are stuck in concrete and the ball is edged through to Jonny Bairstow. Whisper it quietly, but England have had a good day so far.

Theo Sheridan: Please say Ashwin isn't one of these Stuart Broad characters who bowls best after he has batted well.

Every India single is greeted by shrill screaming. This is how the Beatles must have felt at Shea Stadium. Or how Justin Bieber feels when he goes to the papershop. Moeen, slip and short leg in place, decent length, looking to turn the ball from outside the off stump. Tidy over.

    Stokes 18-4-64-0

We're on day seven of this series and I'm still to see a cloud in the sky. Potential for a cloudless five Tests. I'm not sure about Stokes being the first bowler used after lunch - neither James Anderson or Stuart Broad have been used while this pair have been together. Stokes thinks about an appeal against Jayant (pronounced 'giant' - he's not), but there's a big inside edge.

Be honest. Were you having Ravichandran Ashwin as a Test number six? I wasn't, yet he's been India's best bat after Kohli and Pujara. He goes to his second half-century of the series in familiar fashion - his batting has got more cuts than Edward Scissorhands.

It's loud in Vizag. There are plenty of schoolchildren inside the ground, noisily excited that they have been allowed to miss double maths. Alastair Cook, the only catcher behind the bat at a wide slip position, grins and shakes his head as Stokes runs in. Probably some ban banter from Jonny Bairstow. Stokes bangs the ball in, but there's more life in sausage roll.

  20. Du Plessis charged with ball tamperingpublished at 06:43 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2016

Now this is interesting. South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has been charged with ball tampering in the second Test win over Australia in Hobart.

Video footage appears to show the 32-year-old licking his finger and shining the ball while eating a sweet.

Du Plessis was charged with breaching level two of the International Cricket Council code of conduct relating to "changing the condition of the ball" using an artificial substance. He has pleaded not guilty.

South Africa completed an innings-and-80 victory on Tuesday to win the three-Test series with a game to spare.
