Spinner Laura Marsh led the way with 4-21 and she was supported by Danielle Hazell, who took the final wicket to finish with figures of 3-21.

Morning. I can tell you that it's freezing cold outside. Ice, sleet, wind. Enough to make a brass monkey cry his eyes out. Don't bother getting up. Snuggle under the duvet and think warm thoughts.

Who would see a crisis when you've bowled a team out for 242 and you are 158-0? A bit of this came from the defeat in Sri Lanka. then they sent a second team to South Africa for the ODIs because they wanted to rest players. This is as good a South African attack, without Steyn, that I've seen for a while. There's no respite.

Two debutants starred as New Zealand made a sparkling start in the first Test against Pakistan in Christchurch.

All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme claimed 6-41 to help bowl Pakistan out for 133 as the Kiwis made up for lost time following a washed out opening day on Thursday.

Although New Zealand slipped to 15-2 in reply at Hagley Oval, left-hander opener Jeet Raval's unbeaten 55 led them to 104-3 by the close, trailing by only 29. Hats off to the selectors.

  7. 'Aussie batting inept'published at 06:24 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2016

James Sutherland has say there are going to be five or six changes. Will that improve the side? There's a crisis of confidence, but the South Africa bowling was pretty good. Other than Warner, Khawaja and Smith, the Aussie batting was inept.

  10. What have you missed?published at 06:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2016

If you're just joining us - where have you been? - it's been another up and down morning for England.

They finally dismissed Virat Kohli, caught off Moeen for 167, before Ravi Jadeja fell for a duck.

Moeen's been finding some turn but Ravi Ashwin and Jayant Yadav has played it well, putting on 50 runs in just under 14 overs.

England will be happy with the session, but, on the downside, they will be looking at how much Moeen turned the ball and will know they are in a real battle. The pitch is deteriorating, but you can still bat on it. Day four and five might be different. England will know that the first innings is crucial.

  12. Lunch - Ind 415-7published at 119 overs

    Ashwin 47, J Yadav 26

Root is going to get another over, given that it's almost lunch time. Yadav pinches a single to bring up the 50 partnership from 13.5 overs, and Root whizzes through the rest of the over. And that, folks, is lunch.

  13. Ind 412-7published at 118 overs

Stokes bangs a genuine effort ball in at Yadav, who ducks under it and watches it sail into Bairstow's gloves. Bairstow took that down by his knees after it sailed over Yadav. Stokes returns to that off-stump life and Jayant edges towards the slip, but it's along the ground and Cook does the tidying up. The final ball does find the outside edge, and it beats the fielder down at third man to run away for a boundary.

I'm not too sure Joe Root will get a second over. A full-bunger, then a half-volley.

Ansari has been on and off the field all morning, which means Root will twirl his arm before lunch. He tosses it up and Ashwin takes his fill, pounching on a half-volley and smashing it through the covers for a boundary. A horrible looking full ball is then punched emphatically away, but Anderson tidies up to keep it to a single.

I don't think the pitch will go drastically low just yet, but over the next couple of days it might do. Shami and Umesh Yadav, skiddy bowlers, will be looking for the cracks.

  18. Ind 401-7published at 116 overs

Stokes pulls his length back slightly, keeping it short but not bouncer length, as India trade a couple of singles. Ashwin then brings up the 400 with a tickled single down to long leg off Stokes.

  20. Ind 398-7published at 114 overs

Moeen will carry on, and Ashwin steps to one side and sweeps him away for two. Moeen responds with a nice mix of pace, before Ashwin dances down the track and whips through mid-wicket for four. This has been a decent partnership for India - they've put on 33 runs in just under ten overs.
