It's not a bad cherry to get first ball of the morning. I wouldn't be disappointed to see this if I was England, when you think that Woakes, Anderson and Stokes have to bowl.

  2. Eng 274-9published at 92 overs

Anderson, who made a king pair in the second Test, survives his first ball. That brings about cheers from the crowd. Kohli has a man out on the hook for him, which feels fairly redundant. In fact Anderson's managed to get England's first runs of the morning with an edge through third man for four.

I heard the nick from 100 yards away. Great start for India.

Rashid's out to his first ball of the day! Mind you, what a ball to get first up. A genuinely belting delivery from Shami. It had bounce and just shaped away from Rashid, enough to take the outside edge and into Shami's gloves. Enter Jimmy.

The pitch looks pretty good - it's not changed a lot - and the outfield is fast. England will have to bowl and field very, very well. India will look at that pitch and think, '400 minimum'.

  6. Eng 268-8published at 91 overs

    Rashid 4, Batty 0

Jadeja, who finished with figures of 2-56 yesterday, will get the day underway, bowling to Gareth Batty. Batty sees off the first nice ball, before being serenaded by the Barmy Army to the strains of Jerusalem. Jadeja fizzes through the rest of the over, and that will be a maiden.

India are having a huddle while Adil Rashid and Gareth Batty make their way out onto the pitch. It's a sparse crowd, to say the least.

England really messed it up yesterday. This is a very big day for them.

  10. 'Lack of application could cost England the match'published at 03:55 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2016

It's fair to say Jonathan Agnew wasn't impressed with England's batting yesterday.

"England have got to get what they can from these last two wickets and bowl India out," he told BBC Sport.

"They need to bowl their boots off, take every half chance that comes their way and hope for some luck."

England are in for a challenging day. If India bat like they fielded on day one, England have got a chance. If India bat like they did in the first innings of the first two Tests, England are in trouble.

  13. 'The day could have gone a lot better'published at 03:51 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2016

Jos Buttler made his return to the Test team in Mohali, making 43 in just his second first-class match in 13 months.

After a scratchy start he put on 69 with Jonny Bairstow, before tamely chipping Jadeja to Kohli at cover.

"There were a few dismissals that we could have been avoided, but at the end of the day a few started to spin and keep low," he told TMS.

"You're always in the game with runs on the board. We need as many as we can tomorrow."

This makes Bairstow's performance from yesterday all the more impressive.

  15. What happened yesterday?published at 03:47 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2016

England won the toss, won the first hour, then it all went a bit pear-shaped from there.

This is a good pitch but England haven't made the most of it; the majority of the top order fell to loose shots and only Jonny Bairstow, who made 89, provided any real resistance.

Finishing on 268-8, they will be hoping that the tail will wag today and push them over the 300 mark.
