  1. Eng 255-5published at 82 overs

All the talk a couple of hours ago was of 500. Now, 300 is not guaranteed. Buttler is off the mark with a steer to leg for a single. Jayant then finds the edge of Stokes, who is fortunate to see the ball fly between keeper and slip. Buttler then gets in a flap with an attempted reverse sweep that squirts the ball to leg before inside edging the next ball just short of leg slip.

    Ashwin 27-3-64-3

Tough gig for Jos Buttler now. The crowd are baying for blood and Ashwin is twirling hand grenades at him. He is beaten right through the gate first ball and survives the following three.

Well done Virat Kohli - he had the man in the right position. Jonny Bairstow was looking to play it a little finer. Ashwin gets another wicket.

Ashwin is ripping the spine out of this England order. Bairstow misjudges a sweep shot, gets a top edge and sends the ball straight down the throat of Umesh at deep backward square-leg.

    Nope, he hasn't.

  7. India reviewpublished at 80 overs

    Eng 249-4

May as well. It is the last ball before 80 overs are up so there is nothing to lose. I don't think anyone thinks Stokes has gloved Jayant to the keeper, though.

From a great position that England have had, they've given an opening to India with a bad cross bat slog from Moeen Ali. It lifted India's spirits and then Ashwin bowled a good ball at the youngster, and now they're in. The team is up and the crowd are up. You can't let a team in.

  9. Eng 246-4published at 79 overs

Ashwin is teasing Bairstow, offering up a potential drive to the Yorkshireman. Thankfully, the wicketkeeper-batsman is smart enough not to take the bait. Be very wary of those twirled just short of a length. Here be dragons.

  11. Eng 244-4published at 78 overs

    Stokes 3, Bairstow 11

Jadeja departs for a rest and on comes Jayant. No let up for Stokes, who simply has another off spinner to resist. He does a decent job before cutting for a single. Bairstow takes no prisoners, dancing down and whipping powerfully through the on side for four. Kohli will take that. Stokes is the target.

Just see how the tempo has changed, as soon as you lose two wickets. They're bowling tighter, the two new batsmen have to get acclimatised and aren't scoring many runs. It all comes from one bad, irresponsible shot.

  13. Eng 239-4published at 77 overs

Stokes is playing with fire. He opts to leave a straight one from Ashwin, no doubt prompted by the way he has been continually beaten outside off. Fortunately, the ball misses off, much to the frustration of home bowler and captain.

Here is the game...Bairstow & Stokes still in at lunch tomorrow and India are out of the game. Both out before the close today and the series is gone.

Bairstow, benefiting from his right-handedness looks more comfortable. He is unfortunate to pick out the man in the deep with a powerful sweep off Jadeja, giving him just a single. Stokes' frustration continues for three scoreless balls. He has faced 22 balls now for one run. It is a very different game to six overs ago.

Moeen averages 87.85 in 10 innings at number seven with three hundreds and two fifties. He averages 25 everywhere else.

  17. Eng 236-4published at 75 overs

    Bairstow 5, Stokes 1

Ashwin is doing a job on Ben Stokes. Another superb ball beats the offered defence and slaps into the keeper's gloves. The all-rounder needs to start playing the right line and quickly or he'll be heading back into the tent before the day is out.

I'd like to ask the coach, in the nicest way possible, what do you say to someone like Moeen when we've got them by the scruff of the neck, we're playing well, and then you play a cross-bat slog that goes straight up the air and lets them back into the game? Don't give the opposition a sniff. When you've got them down, keep them down.

  19. Eng 233-4published at 74 overs

Every natural instinct in check, Stokes continues to offer a wall, blocking out Jadeja following an early single from Bairstow. Meanwhile, on TMS, Geoffrey is coming off his long run...

Jon Robards: Is there anything more guaranteed in the world than Moeen Ali needlessly throwing his wicket away?

Paul Maguire: Can't have it both ways, Moeen plays freely, gonna give chances, everyone loves it when he slogs sweeps for six.
