  1. Eng 232-4published at 73 overs

Get that hod on your shoulder lads, you've got some foundations to build. Bairstow is off the mark with a swept single off the pumped up, growling Ashwin. Stokes is then beaten outside off by a snorter and lucky not to see his off pole pegged back. Every ball now possesses the potential for a wicket to fall.

Clayton Hodges: Middle order collapse again. I wasn't dreaming, it is still England I'm watching.

Steve C: I go to make breakfast, send an email, burn breakfast and come back to two wickets down in an over.

Tom Stoker: THE COLLAPSE IS ON! THE COLLAPSE IS ON!

  3. Eng 231-4published at 72 overs

Now India are on the attack and England in desperate consolidation mode. Stokes pats Jadeja back for a maiden.

We were 230-2, it's fantastic and Moeen plays a bad shot. Then Jennings gets out to a good ball and suddenly, at 230-4, it's not so clever and you've got two new batsmen at the crease. The crowd are up and the fielders are up.

  5. Eng 231-4published at 71 overs

And so now England have two new men at the crease, after looking so comfortable at 230-2. Ben Stokes joins Jonny Bairstow and gets off the mark first ball with a single. Bairstow keeps out the last ball. So depressingly predictable.

The gully for the spinner is really deep but it's a good catch, diving forward. Ashwin has it in him to get three or four quick wickets - he's that good a bowler in these conditions - but what an innings on debut from Keaton Jennings. He's shown a huge amount of composure, application and skill. Now the Indians are lifted, the crowd are on their feet below us.

Moeen's played this shot twice to Jajedja but with Ashwin you're not too sure if it will bounce or skid on. He's played his strokes after tea but it's been his downfall. You don't want Ashwin to get on a roll.

    Jennings c Pujara b Ashwin 112 (Eng 230-4)

Oh no. That old English failing again. Ashwin makes it two wickets in the over by dismissing England's star man this innings. It is a rare tentative shot from Jennings, prodding at a ball short of a length and sending an edge to gully. The game has changed.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 70.1 overs

    Moeen c Karun b Ashwin 50 (Eng 230-2)

Unnecessary. It is a thoughtless shot from Moeen, who has swept well off Jadeja but doesn't account for the extra height and nip from Ashwin. Same shot, different result as he skies a catch to Karun at short fine leg. And now India have a route back in to the game.

I don't think India have been at their best but you have to say the application and mental approach from the England players has been terrific. It's all been led by Keaton Jennings.

OK, don't do anything stupid Keaton son. It is still spinning out there. He slashes wildly at a turner from Jayant. Not sure if he made contact but it has Kohli diving at slip to try and take the ball before spilling it.

The over ends with Moeen moving to 50 with a single. He has accelerated well since tea.

Ashwin and Jadeja have a mini consultation, with the former offering the latter some strategy pointers. It does little to alter the momentum, though. Two more singles added to England's total. Let's check in on Keaton's height...

Tremendous shot. This is the perfect kind of pitch to play the lap shot and the slog-sweeps.

Freddie Cocker: Had a feeling Keaton Jennings would step up on debut but this is outstanding cricket. Go on the boy! Make a big daddy hundred.

James Ashley: Don't want to put a dampener on things but one century doth not make a secured opener (Lyth, Compton et al).

    Jennings 110, Moeen 47

Now Moeen is sweeping up. Jayant is hammered away for another four as England march on. As a sign of his growing assurance and confidence he then swats another Jayant ball wide of midwicket for another boundary. He is racing towards 50.

I think it will be one of those pitches that's difficult to get in on but once you're in, with the pace and the bounce, it's easy for batting. Jennings has played so well and he is controlling the day for England. The Indians are thinking 'how is the next wicket going to fall?'

  18. Eng 216-2published at 67 overs

England continue to make unruffled progress. It is not often in this series that India have looked a bit lost for ideas. It is the touring side being proactive - dictating the tempo.

I don't think the Indians have bowled for maidens enough, it's been too easy for England. To have a long-off to Alastair Cook... how often has he hit over long-off?
