  1. Eng 214-2published at 66 overs

Jennings has utilised the sweep to supreme effect so far. He drops to one knee and slaps Jayant away for four. Dismissive. We're watching the young lad grow in stature before our eyes. Literally, if the height stats on his Wikipedia page are anything to go by.

  2. Eng 210-2published at 65 overs

    Jennings 104, Moeen 38

Moeen decides attack is the best form of defence. He takes a step down to Jadeja and lofts him high to cow corner for six. That looked effortless. The young lad collecting the ball behind the rope has a tough job on his hands, taking it after one bounce off the gathered covers.

There was just that little bit of bounce that the spinners are getting. Some encouragement for the seamers too.

    Eng 202-2

Kohli taps the turf in frustration as Moeen edges a turning ball from Jayant just short of him at slip. A timely warning for England - they may be on top here but as they've shown in recent times, that can quickly and spectacularly change on a turning surface.

Looking at the Test match situation, India have to win this session.

  7. Eng 201-2published at 63 overs

    Ali 30, Jennings 103

That'll do. Moeen eases himself back into action with a back-foot pull off Jadeja's first ball - an ugly long-hop. A lofted swept single follows, allowing Jennings a chance to get a brief feel for things after tea.

Cheers Amy. Fine work. I'll try to keep this going. As the superstition goes, turn right and lap for runs.

That's all from me. I'm off to practise my reverse sweep, and leave you in the more than capable hands of Phil Dawkes. In a bit.

That's a wonderful session for England and they should feel uplifted and go for 500 - don't give it away now.  Beautiful bowling got Joe Root out, other than that Jennings has played nicely. Lovely footwork, nothing clever at all, reverse-sweeping the spinners. Moeen has been nervous against the spinners, he nearly chipped one to straight mid-wicket, played and missed a a couple of times but looked comfortable once the seamers came on.

England scored 79 runs in that afternoon session, losing Joe Root in the process but the sight of a grinning Keaton Jennings making a century on Test debut cheered the dressing room. He got there with a reverse sweep, a shot that he has played with control and confidence throughout his innings.

Darren Cook: Emergency Opener dragged to India out of A Tour, minimal time to prepare, scores 100 on debut! Where have i heard that before?

Totum: Century on debut, brought up with a reverse sweep, stuff of legends this.

JT: So selectors pick the leading english run scorer, he gets a hundred. If only the leading wicket taker was a spinner...

Jennings sees out the final over, and then leads Moeen off the field. There's a big smile on his face, and why wouldn't there be? What a wonderful afternoon for him. A century on debut. The first opener to do so for England since Alastair Cook in 2006. And he's not done too badly now, has he?

I'd like to see selectors take another plunge or two. The only reason Jennings is playing is because they were forced in to it. Be proactive. Don't wait until we have two players with a broken leg or something.
