  1. Eng 195-2published at 61 overs

Jennings is the 19th England batsman to make a century in his debut Test. There's stats flying about all over the place. Back on the field Moeen, who has stopped looking quite so jittery, watchfully plays out another Jayant over.

It takes an awful lot of resilience to recover from being dropped on 0, on your Test debut, to make a century in a country where touring batsmen have historically struggled. It's easy to get sycophantic about these things but it's been a genuinely impressive performance from Jennings. He looks composed and I like the fact that he's not let India bowl at him. Once he got settled, he's played his shots, especially that reverse sweep that brought up his century.

Simon: Jennings with a reverse sweep to make 100 on debut vs the best team in the world in their conditions. Scintillating!

Tom Audsley: Great way to reach 100! Nevermind it being on debut! He deserved his call up eventually.

Umair Virk: Jennings,as solid as a rock on debut! Well played boy!

  6. Eng 192-2published at 59 overs

There was a standing ovation from the dressing room and the England fans in the crowd for Jennings as he reached three figures. What a moment for him.

He looks nicely composed. He has an economy of movement - he stays very still. His footwork is good. Not every day will be good like this but it is a very fine performance.

Modern day - he goes to 100 with a reverse sweep. We didn't even know what it was when I played.

There it is! A century on debut for Keaton Jennings! And he's brought it up with a reverse sweep. A genuinely brilliant moment for the young lad, arms in the air, a quick hug with Moeen. He's had such composure at the crease, recovering from being dropped on 0 to mix aggression with patience, but he's never seemed to get bogged down. A lovely moment.

Bhuvi Kumar, who had a very sheepish look on his face after accidentally hitting poor umpire Reiffel with a return throw, is on for a bowl. Kohli is observing everything with a very unimpressed look on his face. Hes' even less impressed as a sloppy bit of backing up gifts England a single. That's the 50 partnership up.

There is nothing of great alarm for the batsman. Maybe eight or nine balls have turned, the rest have been straight up and down.

There are many, many things I enjoy about Moeen's batting. That flap outside off stump is not one of them. He sticks to defending as Jayant returns to the attack, although a delivery that spins and bounces above Moeen's bat has the fielders interested. A maiden.

In the back of any England fan's mind, they do have it in them to collapse. Generally more so when they lose wickets at the top of the order, not usually when they have a foundation like this one.

  14. dropped catch

    Eng 182-2

Now, I feel harsh calling this a drop, because it would have been a wonder catch from Kohli, but the India captain got a hand to it. It was a bad shot from Moeen, a nothing waft outside off stump, and it flew away towards second slip. Kohli dived and got a hand to it but he couldn't cling on. Think Ben Stokes at Trent Bridge. Kohli is furious with himself. To add insult to injury, it's run away for four.

Trevor Bayliss is the world's most relaxed man. He's kicking back in the dressing room, floppy hat firmly in place, one foot up on the balcony. Jonny Bairstow, sat with his pads on, looks a little more tense as he watches Jennings jog an easy single.

    Jennings 93, Moeen 12

Jennings will face Umesh for a bit, and he gets well under another bouncer. There's a conciliatory nod in the bowler's direction, which I like, before he gives himself a little pep talk. Umesh's wonky radar continues as he spears another ball down the leg side, which forces Kohli to bring his field up. Jennings works away a comfortable single to nab the strike for the next over.

India have not set good enough fields to try and force the big stroke. It's been easy for England to knock it around for ones and twos.

Hello, big shout against Jennings from Ashwin and the fielders around the bat. Short leg thinks he's caught a leading edge but I'd fancy that came off the pad, rather than the bat. Ashwin mixes his pace up, trying to catch Jennings out, but he's equal to everything that comes his way.
