Neil Dutton: Take the new ball skipper, you don't have to pay for it.
Rashid continues to deliver the occasional beauty. He spins one sharply past Jayant's forward prod but there's no edge. Ashwin is going to be getting very giddy in that India dressing room.

England fear the new ball travelling for runs - 50 or 60 runs could be crucial in this game. They feel they can control the runs with the old ball.

Jayant 6, Kohli 109
Still no new ball but a change of seamers as Chris Woakes joins the attack. He's only bowled five overs so far, the least of any England bowler, including Root.
He generates a tiny bit of reverse but not enough to trouble Kohli, whose bat seems to be where the ball is directed before it is even bowled. Rashid prevents a boundary following a beautiful on drive, but there is nobody who can prevent a subsequent flashing drive reaching the boundary.
This ball is 123 overs old now. It is begging to be put out of its misery.

What an innings this has been from Kohli. This is an 'I was there' moment. There were times when he had to play in first gear, then he's had to move up to fourth and fifth gear. To do it in this spotlight, on a pitch like this... It has been spinning square.
Jayant may be down at nine but he is no mug. He has a highest first-class score of 211. He scored 55 in Mohali, you'll remember.

They're desperate for a wicket.
Ind 376-7
Not even umpire's call. The ball is missing outside off. Turning too much.
Ind 376-7
Big England appeal as Jayant is caught on the front pad. It is not out on the field but this has a chance.

These are the moments you play for - to get runs when the pitch is tricky, the match is tight, in front of your own supporters.
What a shot! Kohli spots the wide ball from Ball and is on in a flash. His foot comes out, the bat follows in wristy fashion to send it low and quickly to the rope. England's total, dead ahead.

Kohli stands there like Caesar has conquered Gaul.
Ind 370-7
The home crowd are on their feet in anticipation, cameras at the ready. They go wild as Kohli drives for a single before punching the air in delight, whipping off his helmet and soaking up the adulation.

Ask anyone in the world apart from an Englishman and they will say Kohli. To top it all off, Kohli has the pressure of being a captain whereas Root can just concentrate on scoring runs.
Shane (we fear Kohli in Australia)
Kohli 99, Jayant 2
If there is a golden rule in India it is that you do not run out Virat Kohli, especially when he's on 99. India's superstar flicks to leg and looks set for the two he needs for a century but doesn't risk it. Jayant sets off but has to scamper back.
Jayant gets off the mark with a back-foot push into the off side.
Get ready for an almighty roar...

Adil Rashid is only the second England leg-spinner to take 20 wickets in an away series, after Doug Wright in Australia in 1946-47. Australian Richie Benaud is the only touring leg-spinner to take 20 in a series in India - he did it twice.

Thomas Measures: England are going to be bowled out for under a 100 in the 2nd inning, aren't they.
Charles Bennett: Can we not post this endless stream of defeatist comments? It may be the English way but I prefer to be a little more hopeful.
Michael Shaw: Really good session by England, but all I see on #bbccricket, external are negative comments.
Kohli remains on 98 as Ball keeps Jayant at the striker's end with some probing bowling.
