I've had great fun watching this. What a good game, it really is. Anything could happen...

And that will be tea. England's session, you'd say, thanks to Joe Root's inspired decision to bring himself on while Cook was off the field. But Kohli is still there, ominously poised on 83. It'll be an interesting final session.

A change of bowler but it's the same ball, as Moeen takes a bow and Jake Ball has a quick burst. There's a half-shout for lbw against Kohli to his first delivery, but it was sliding down leg and Kohli looks to have got the finest of tickles on that. Ball goes wide of off stump, trying to tempt Kohli, but he's having none of it. His eye is very much in and looking towards three figures.

A sleepless last few hours following the arrival of beautiful twin boys. On the upside been able to catch the whole of the first session with one ear plug in on the blindside. Sadly the missus wouldn't have Keaton and Jos. Welcome Joseph and Reuben!

Rashid, a huge streak of dirt on the back of his shirt, will continue. Jadeja and Kohli work a single here and a single there, looking at ease. They've negotiated the turn well. Kohli's innings is a blueprint for how England's batsmen should look to deal with the turn, although they'll have the added pressure of 19,000 spectators cheering India on.

I know we keep talking about it but this Kohli innings has been a masterstroke. When he came out he was in third gear, then he had to drop to first and now he realises the scoreboard needs to tick over and he is taking that opportunity.

Moeen will replace Root, who can take a breather with figures of 7-2-17-2. Moeen's first ball is short and Jadeja takes a slight step back and crashes it away to the boundary. Jadeja's replaced the helmet with a cap, which has the bonus effect of making him look way cooler. Everyone looks better batting in a cap. Another couple of singles keeps the score ticking along.

Justin Lewis-Anthony: All of a sudden it sounds like there are about 30 people and a dog in the stadium.

Suzy Clode: Make Joe Root captain - the time has definitively come.

Rashid fires through another over, his 32nd of this innings. Jadeja and Kohli work the singles. I wonder how much longer it will be before Cook takes the new ball. Admittedly, this old one has done the trick up until now.

Root tosses it up, tempting Kohli, and the India captain works those wrists again to add another couple to the total. According to the telly there are 19,444 in the stadium today. They had been quietened during Root's spell but the noise level is starting to creep back up again.

I really do think it is right in the balance at the minute. That third innings of the match with England batting is going to  be a tricky one. It is spinning square. Ashwin and co will make life very difficult.

Rashid's come around the wicket to Kohli, and the batsman's response is to tickle a leggy delivery fine for another boundary. Kohli then points to his bat, just to make sure the umpire knows that he hit that one. It's spinning horribly now though, turning square, which will keep England's batsman awake.

Joe just lobs it up but it does for people. We've all got out to those kind of balls. But it all counts for England.

    Jadeja 10, Kohli 72

Jadeja has decided he's had enough of this getting out to Root lark. That's an amazing shot. A pull that didn't seem to be that powerful but it's sailed high over the rope and into the stands for six. Cook instantly goes defensive with the field and watches Root spin a lovely delivery past Jadeja's bat. There's half an appeal for a catch, but that missed everything. Root's definitely getting it to turn.

Ooh, that's a chance to get rid of Kohli. It went hard and fast to Rashid and he only really got one hand to it, but that's a chance. Rashid's starting to tire. A glorious delivery goes fizzing past Kohli's outside edge before a horrid short ball gets the treatment to end the over.

My Catkins: Keep Cook off the field! #Root

Andrew Symes: Joe Root is that kid you hated in school. You try something for ages and can't do it but he gives it a minute and it looks easy.

Tom Burrows: Heck of a snaffle from the tallest short leg Jennings. Golden arm Root!

I want Cook to follow Root's lead and bring himself on to bowl. That decision could definitely have gone one of two ways. Ravindra Jadeja is next to the crease and he likes the look of Root. A lovely thwack sails over Root's head and down the ground to the boundary.
