Rashid hasn't quite managed to frustrate them enough. Rahul has played him very well, one of the shots of the day was shimmying down the wicket and working him through mid-wicket.

If there's a surprise it is of course that Kohli got out for under 20. Broad changed it around a bit, they managed to stop him scoring and he made a mistake. It silenced the crowd, but they have been richly entertained by Rahul. It's hard to see how England are going to rip through them.

Bails removed, time for a brew. England's session, the two big wickets of Pujara and Kohli. Still, with India 256-3, you can hardly say that their cup is overflowing. Two more quick ones, though...

Moeen Ali is called upon for a token over before the tea break. Remember when he was England's number one spinner? Round the wicket to the pair of right-handers, every delivery greeted by an excitable grunt from Jonny Bairstow. Maybe only one over to go before the break.

As they used to say in a rather weak defence; 'It was alright when it left my hand,' but down came Rahul and made it into a half volley with fleet feet.

Lovely from Rahul, moving like man in dancing shoes to send Rashid to the cover boundary for four. When Rahul works on the leg side, Alastair Cook dives over the ball like a bridge raising to allow a ship to pass. After the pair of earlier wickets, England are back at the coal face.

Ben Duckett is on as sub fielder, taking the number of wicketkeepers England have out there to three. Unusually, the sun dips behind a cloud as the beanpole figure of Jake Ball pads in. Rahul has to hurry we he wants a single, but Liam Dawson's throw misses. I'll be honest, it's pretty sleepy stuff.

Rashid in the sunshine, fielders spread far and wide for ton-up KL Rahul. When Nair is on strike, the tourists return to the same post code. In the India dressing room, Virat Kohli chats with Che Pujara, explaining the he simply didn't fancy scoring any runs today and he wouldn't have got out unless he wanted to.

Ball has a very nice high action and that one bounced more than Rahul anticipated.

Oooofff. Have some of that. Jake Ball gets a cobra to leap of out the basket, hitting Rahul on the glove, then in the ribs. That's a rare sign of life from this surface. The rest of the over is what we come to expect. Where did that come from? Just a bit of a tease, really.

There is something there for the wrist spinner but of course Mishra struggled, the lack of pace in the pitch perhaps.

Morning. Are just waking up? This time next week it will be Christmas Day. Are you ready? How have the England players managed to do their shopping? They might be dishing out a lot of gift vouchers. Better from Rashid, length with a touch of loop, causing Rahul to nutmeg himself when he attempts a sweep.
