So one more day of the tour to go. How will England's beleaguered players fare? Can they hold out for a draw? 270 more needed to make India bat again. All will be revealed, so please join us again from 03:45 GMT on Tuesday. Cheerio now.

Records aplenty today, India's highest Test total and the highest conceded by England. Their 759-7 contained 70 fours and 10 sixes.

It was the third triple century by an India batsman, the other two belonging to Virender Sehwag.

India are the fifth Test team to make 600 in consecutive innings, while it is only the second time since Test cricket began in Melbourne in 1877 that England have conceded 600 in consecutive innings.

Here's how that unbeaten 303 was scored. Not much of the playing area that Karun Nair did not hit the ball to. He faced 381 balls and struck 32 fours and four sixes.

The spinners will give you a problem for the first few overs you face, with men round the bat. Although our middle order and bowlers batted well, like theirs did, it's easy to bat well when you've got a bit of a total on the board. If you're three down for not many, the pitch can look like a minefield. Look at how often Ben Stokes has got out to off-spinners.

India have a chance [to win], but I wouldn't give them more than one in 20.

More from England coach Trevor Bayliss on Sky Sports as he discusses India: "They've been consistent throughout each of the Test marthes. A few of the earlier Tests we were in the game but their consistency put us into the dirt and we were not able to come back. But we'll wake up tomorrow and still be breathing.

"We're still looking for a complete XI, we're not quite there yet, we're still trying to get some guys up to speed and looking for a few positions.

"We've got to put some innings together where we've got two or three hundreds. We've debuted five young players in this series. Young Hameed was a stand out before he got injured, Jennings too and Dawson. Young Ball was probably our best pace bowler in the fourth Test and Stokes has made some strides against spin. Joe Root has shown us again what a class player he is."

Cook's future as captain: "If Alastair wants to continue we're more than happy but I'm not going to get involved in that, after a long stint I'll leave that up to him."

They just flogged England to death in the evening session. We couldn't stem the flow in any way, that's the sad part. We had six men on the boundary and they still smashed boundaries, it was pure mayhem. The best two bowlers for me were Jennings, who came on as an occasional bowler and got Nair to play and miss, and he had an lbw shout which might have been clipping the top of the stumps - and Ben Stokes, who bowled well. They gave it their best shot.

England coach Trevor Bayliss on Sky Sports: "It was just one of those days. India played extremely well and you put it down to one of those days and just hope doesn't happen too often. Alastair tried everything but you have to bowl to the fields and once India got in it was a fantastic innings.

"It's a difficult day for everyone in the changing room but they will come out tomorrow and it will be a test of their character.

"I liked the way Dawson looked today, when we needed some control he was the one that stood up. I'm sure we made some mistakes, weve played some decent cricket but not as good as the India team, who haven't let us into the game.

"The last three catches we've dropped have probnably cost us about 500 and is something we've got to work on. On flat decks it's something we've got to work on too, taking wickets with spin and seam."

Dawson bowled steady, but because of the cyclone there's been so much rain on the outskirts, it's bound the pitch together and keeps it slow which gives the batsmen more time. If you like excitement and runs being scored, it was good.

You've got to say well played India, they scored even more runs than people expected. Cook's dropped catch yesterday was difficult, it flashed and went high and wide. Root's today, when Karun Nair already had 217, was a much easier chance. The stumping chance wasn't easy either when he had 246. It was the afternoon session when it started to get away from England.

India triple centurion Karun Nair tells Sky Sports about his unbeaten 303: "That’s the best knock of my life. I had to play differently depending on who was batting. They kept encouraging me and I want to thank them.

"The first hundred is always important and when I got that I didn’t feel any pressure and just played my shots. The sweep comes naturally to me and has been my go-to shot whenever I need a four.

"The pitch is getting worse and for a new batsmen it won’t be easy to play. Hopefully it will turn more tomorrow."

Just hearing that England coach Trevor Bayliss is going home to Australia tonight. Not because of that India 759-7 but he is having a hernia operation in two days.

The key will be the early session. Every time a new batsman comes in, India will pressurise them - and it's really only your own fault if you get out.

A slip, leg slip, leg gully and short leg for Cook but he shows a straight bat to Jadeja and, no doubt to the surprise of world weary England followers, the openers have negotiated those five overs very competently. That's stumps. Just the one day to survive now.

An authoritative sweep from Jennings brings him four off Ashwin. He now has his second highest Test score, having followed his century with 0 and 1, and there might only be one more over to face tonight.

What do the openers have to do? Stay in. If there's a ball to hit, just take it, don't whack it. You'll be tired, but just make sure you survive for tomorrow.

Ishant is taken off after one over in which Geoffrey described him as a 'big girl's blouse', which I have not heard for a while and might direct at the Horsham team in tomorrow night's Sussex Senior Cup tie at Nyewood Lane. Jadeja, who has 19 wickets in the series, slings down some slow left-armers but no alarms yet for the England openers.

Vic and Blowers were just asking when we had last seen carnage like this India innings. The year has ended as it started surely. The bright note is we were delivering it last time. Remember Stokes and Bairstow, Cape Town, First Test, early 4th (?) January 2016.

The tall figure of spinner Ashwin shares the new ball and has a slip, gully, short-leg, silly point all crowded round the bat, but Jennings gets away with a two into the leg side.
