Ind 700-6published at 10:36 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    224 ahead

Karun has faced over 350 balls but his feet are still as light as a feather and he dances down the track to thump Moeen over long-on for the eighth six of the innings. The 700 is up but still they go on, obviously worried they haven't got enough.

Karun, who has a first-class highest of 328, reaches 250, the seventh India batsman to do so. Virender Sehwag has four of them.

Nigel, Redhill: Instead of moaning about what England aren't doing, how about praising what these amazing batsmen ARE doing? This is another astonishing Indian batting line up - enjoy it!

Dean, Bucks: Rick at 10:04. I must commend the English grounds men if they can prepare "swinging pitches". Seaming wickets are achievable but influencing the weather conditions is beyond their remit.

Colin, cold foggy Congresbury: Is this the lowest number of extras in a score of 650 plus. No byes so far.

No, Colin, you probably sent that before Jonny missed that stumping.

  5. Ind 686-6published at 10:29 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Karun 249, Jadeja 33

Moeen again, going through the motions somewhat. A drink comes out for the India batsmen, no doubt telling them exactly how much longer they have before the declaration. Karun is only one short of 250 but Kohli still has the t-shirt on. The lead is over 200 and England have been bowled out for less than that three times this winter.

England are demoralised beyond description. They've got to find some fight from somewhere for one last day.

Kohli has shorts on, which indicates he might not be declaring any time soon.

  7. Ind 681-6published at 10:26 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Karun 247, Jadeja 30

They've come back into the dressing room and Kohli still has his blue t-shirt and shorts on so maybe it was an elaborate ruse. Still Stokes, still trying everything, still the runs flow.

They've got a 200 lead now, so I think they're just waiting for Karun Nair to get to 250.

  9. Missed stumpingpublished at 180 overs

    Ind 677-6 (200 ahead)

I like Jonny so I'm not going to criticise but it's a first chance to get the missed stumping graphic out. Karun was way out of his crease to Moeen, a wild yahoo and it goes between bat and pad, veering up above the wicketkeeper's grasp. The first byes of the innings and we're in the 180th over, so he's hardly made a series of errors. The Indian dressing room has emptied so a declaration could be imminent.

Stokes gives it everything, every ball. Maybe he should have been given the new ball ahead of Jake Ball.

  11. Ind 671-6published at 10:16 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    194 ahead

India now have their highest score against England, beating the 664 at The Oval in 2007. Stokes again, still getting the ball to rise at the batsmen, but the half century partnership is quickly recorded from 46 balls, the fourth stand in excess of fifty in the innings. It was only those rabbits Pujara and Kohli that could not get amongst the runs.

England's fielders might be saying to the guys carrying on the drinks, to stay on as long as possible. There's no respite. Maybe they need one of those electric buggies to come on and break down.

  13. drinks break

Drinks breakpublished at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Ind 665-6 (188 ahead)

Jonny's got some lungs on him, I can imagine him belting out a few Christmas carols in the Leeds town centre after a glass or two. Moeen is not such a vociferous appealer, and I don't think he even looked at the umpire with this speculative lbw appeal. Reverse sweep for four from Karun, as common place as the forward defensive. Drinks break. The bad news for England is that play has to resume again shortly.

Rick, Windsor: In response to Jordan's post. You are missing one point. England always prepare swinging pitches but this tour has not had a single rank turner. A simple case of sour grapes my friend.

Anonymous: The bitterness by some English fans not giving Virat credit! He's had 1 series in England, he's a better player now. Wait till the next one and then slate him!

  15. Ind 658-6published at 10:04 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    181 ahead

Stokes returns for another wholehearted spell but the singles are easily available to the fielders in the remote outposts and Karun has the highest score by an India batsman against England, beating the 235 made way back in...the last Test, by his captain.

It's right to bowl a few balls into the ribs, but if you bowl every ball there, the batsman will get one he fancies and take a swipe at it, and it'll go miles.

What would you do in IPL cricket? Try and outthink him. Try a slower ball when he's sat back and waiting [for a bouncer].

Six more. It was very short from Ball, almost at head height, but Jadeja wielded the willow and it flew over the rope at square-leg. An agricultural heave brings four more to the same area. I wonder if India will reach 700? They have only done it three times, all this century, the most recent against Sri Lanka in 2010.

The two Mumbai lads, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, will be wondering if they'll get back in the side after this. It's a nice problem for India to have.

  19. Ind 640-6published at 175 overs

    Karun 228, Jadeja 7

I'd like to tell you the field but the camera only covers the 30-yard circle and I can only see Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps. Karun is quickly able to seize on a short one from Broad and he hoists it over mid-wicket for his 26th four, which is I think more than I struck in my entire career.

  20. Ind 633-6published at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

Jake Ball of Nottinghamshire - like his near namesake Jake Bugg - tries a few lightning bolts, there's targeting the younger audience for you, up at 87mph, but Jadeja fends away a short one off the glove to safety and will keep the bowling.
