I don't think my Aunt Gaynor played cricket but she'd certainly be good at sledging. She was more of a golfer and some say she invented the broomhandled putter because she was so short the conventional size flat stick used to nestle under her chin. Anyway, here's Stephan Shemilt looking much more chipper today and why not? Chris Rea is tuning up.

Tim Baxter: Ok someone tell Boycott to shut up now. He's getting very very boring now.

Arjun Sohanpal: Got to say - I love listening to Boycott, & I'd love to see a top order partnership between his Mum & his Aunty Annie.

What about Keaton Jennings' South African background?

Wisden editor Lawrence Booth on TMS: "Ten years ago, county teams were full of Kolpak players and there would have been a bit more outrage. If you've captained a country at Under-19 level as Jennings has, it's not like you can then claim to have dreamt of playing for another country. But he threw his lot in with Durham when he was a teenager."

John Etheridge: "Jennings captained South Africa U-19s and he is South African. His mum was born in Sunderland but grew up in South Africa from quite an early age. I suppose in an ideal world every England player would be born in England but that's not the way it is these days and Australia have chosen someone today born in Zimbabwe."

Sun cricket correspondent John Etheridge on TMS: "Cook, Hameed, Jennings and Root would be my best guess for a top four. I still think number four is the best place for Root. Hameed clearly appears to be calm and composed, Jennings has done enough to be selected and Cook will be around, captain or otherwise."

You've written today about how Somerset spinner Jack Leach wasn't considered for this series...

Wisden editor Lawrence Booth on TMS: "It's an interesting one. No umpire had any suspicions or doubts during the county season, and the suggestion was that he wasn't selected in the original tour party because he wasn't ready for international cricket,

"They've then done tests at Loughborough and uncovered doubts about his action. The feeling is that he'll be fine for the new county season, and they hope they can turn him into the spinner they want him to be."

How good is this India side?

Indian cricket writer Chetan Narula on TMS: "They need to go overseas and win matches and series - you look at the long home season India have, with New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia coming. England are probably the most difficult side to beat of those, and India have beaten them easily.

"So they're invincible at home, but the real test is going abroad and winning. They've lost everywhere outside the subcontinent apart from West Indies, who aren't a top Test team any more. The nucleus of this team has been together for four years, but it's too early to say if this is the best Indian team ever."

Has Kohli got he wanted from this series?

Wisden editor Lawrence Booth on TMS: "He made a comment after Rajkot that he didn't want grass on the wicket, and that was like the emperor clicking his fingers - it's been all India's way since then. He made a comment recently that individual landmarks would not delay team objectives, but delayed his declaration yesterday for Karun Nair to get his triple hundred."

Sun cricket correspondent John Etheridge on TMS: "Like Cook, I don't think Kohli is a brilliant tactican either, but captains are as good as their bowlers and four years ago Cook had Swann and Panesar and won the series. Nobody has really focused on Kohli's shortcomings because they have won the series because they have had better bowlers and better batsmen."

Indian cricket writer Chetan Narula on TMS: "Kohli does give a bit of independence to bowlers setting their fields, particularly the experienced bowlers like Ishant Sharma or Ashwin. It's a bit of a learning curve for him - look at the way he's dealt with the DRS reviews, Jadeja probably needs 20 reviews in an innings, and that maturity needs to come into Kohli's leadership."

England might want Cook to stay anyway, as South Africa and the Ashes are two of the most difficult series - it would be a pretty stiff way for Root to start as captain.

Sun cricket correspondent John Etheridge on TMS: "Cook has kept his cards close to his chest and he certainly hasn't told Bayliss or some of his closer chums like Anderson. Maybe he hasn't decided himself so we are looking at early to mid-January before Cook and Strauss chat, the more distant he is with the decision the more likely he is to stay. My best guess is he will stay as captain and stand down after the Ashes which seems the obvious cut off point."

Wisden editor Lawrence Booth on TMS: "Cook reviews his position at the end of every tour, but he'll have to make a decision which takes in the 2017-18 Ashes, as he can't pack it in at the end of the summer.

The days of knee-jerk resignations from England captains are probably over. If I had to put money on it, I wouldn't expect him to be captain in July, but he won't rush his decision."

For all the talk of Cook's problems, he is still averaging 40 for the series and has 367 runs with one hundred and one fifty. Three more needed this afternoon for another half century so we shall see what transpires. For now we are going to hear from Wisden editor Lawrence Booth and veteran Sun reporter John Etheridge.

England have had a splendid morning. Cook got a nick early on, had a bit of fortune, but after that, he's been in this situation so many times, I'm not worried. It's not been his best series ever, but he hardly ever bats badly.

I was more interested in the kid [Jennings] after two failures. It's turning, but it's slow, and he played splendidly. He did exactly the right thing - good defence, economy of movement, but he's looked to score as if they're going to have three or four around the bat, there are going to be gaps.

A leading edge from Cook as Ashwin continues to ask questions but it is past the silly point fielder before he can get his hands in position and that will be lunch. Some impressive application from the England openers and captain Kohli looks a little disconsolate as he twirls a fielding helmet thoughtfully.

India haven't got a wicket, so they're desperate and they're shouting for everything, even though it was obvious it hit his pad. Then, when he doesn't take the catch, they ask for lbw. My mum's padded up here, my Auntie Annie would bat on this after having three sherries.
