Every time we go to Bangladesh, here or the UAE, we're all at sea on slow turners. Unless we have a player of Pietersen's ability who won Test matches for us like he did in Sri Lanka and Mumbai, or spinners like Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann, we're going to keep losing.

Normally, they sack losing generals. You've got to do something about it.

  7. 'England wickets fell like dominoes'published at 10:47 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

We gave it away with awful cricket. The worst thing is, we've seen this before - like dominoes going down, you push one and they all go down.

I don't blame people like Dawson, Rashid, Broad and Ball - it's not the tail-enders' job. Like when I played for England, it wasn't my job to bowl and get wickets - my job was to bat.

We pay the coaches and the director of cricket fortunes, but nothing will happen. We'll beat people in England on seaming pitches and everything in the garden will be rosy.

If this was the worst turning pitch I had to play on, I'd take it every time. We just gave it away.

  9. 'Moeen dismissal atrocious'published at 10:45 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

Moeen Ali was the worst of the lot. Tries to slog him for six and gets out. When Kevin Pietersen did that at Perth, he got some stick and rightly so. Ludicrously stupid, and Moeen's dismissal here was just as stupid. Atrocious.

  11. 'Poor shot, poor thinking'published at 10:43 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

But we came out after lunch with everyone wanting to score. Cook poked one to short leg that was missing leg stump. Jennings pushed one back and was caught and bowled, Root was sweeping off the stumps which is dangerous these days with DRS. Poor shot, poor thinking.

Bairstow was a terrible shot. I love Jonny dearly but I can't excuse that. It was missing leg stump by six inches, he tried to flip it for a boundary and he was caught. Sell your wicket dearly - don't try to get your average up, save the game.

Ben Stokes tried to push it to mid-wicket off the middle of the bat - stupid as you can think of.

Sanjay Johal: Please don't use Moeen Ali as the scapegoat. All the batsmen are poor. Don't give them an excuse for this routine capitulation.

Dan: Laying blame squarely at feet of Moeen is out of order. What about the lack of fight by players either side of him?

India coach Anil Kumble: "A brilliant effort. I felt through the series we showed a lot of character. After losing the toss and them scoring 477, to win the Test match and the series 4-0 is really fantastic. We felt one wicket and there would be the pressure on them of trying to save a Test match."

  15. 'Keep your wickets intact'published at 10:41 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

They got to lunch doing everything they needed to do. Cook had a little bit of luck when he was dropped by the wicketkeeper, but played accomplished - even when he plays OK, he still makes runs.

The kid at the other end, Jennings, was the biggest plus - he was composed, he bats like Marcus Trescothick, he's a wonderful sweeper and reverse sweeper.

There's always been slow turn on this surface, it's not shot along the deck so it's awkward when you first go in, but by lunch, we thought "wow, it's straightforward now". Above all, keep your wickets intact. Give them nothing.
