    Root 30 (44)

Bumrah continues a tight line before falling short and Root picks it up early, executing a sweet pull shot for four.

He had to fetch that from outside the off stump. You could say it was against the spin, but there isn't much spin in this pitch anyway.

  3. 6 runs

    Eng 126-2published at 22 overs

    Ashwin 5-0-33-0

Morgan paddles round the corner for two and it's feeling all a bit gentle until the captain unleashes to smash Ashwin into the crowd over mid-wicket.

First maximum of the innings and 13 off the over. England needed that.

Totum: My imagination or do England give more wickets away just after a drinks break than any other team? Mental strength & all that.

Saagar: I literally turned to watch to see a falling wicket. Back to sleep.

  5. Eng 113-2published at 21 overs

    Morgan 2 (11)

Bumrah is reintroduced to the attack by Kohli and strays wide - finally given as Root shoots an indignant look at umpire Nandan.

Morgan a bit jumpy as he charges the seamer, only to get a bottom edge into his pads.

Excellent over (wide aside) from Bumrah.

England have scored only 46 runs in 11 overs since the spinners were introduced.

So with Roy out I can go go a shower safe in the knowledge that Morgan will be out when I get back to the radio/phone.

  7. Eng 111-2published at 20 overs

    Run rate 5.55

The tourists reach Nelson (111) at the 20-over mark.

  8. Eng 109-2published at 19 overs

Morgan gets off the mark - some relief no doubt after his golden duck in the second warm-up game.

India sense a chance to get on top here. Dhoni still orchestrating things in the field.

He was batting really well. There was just a little bit of turn. It was a pre-meditated shot that allowed Jadeja to drop the ball a little shorter. Roy is very annoyed with himself because he knows that he has thrown a century and more away. That could have been 150-plus.

  10. wicket

Roy st Dhoni b Jadeja 73 (Eng 108-2)

    No they won't.

Classic case of the mockers there as Roy charges down the pitch to Jadeja, plays all around it and is easily stumped by MS Dhoni.

A fine innings of 73 comes to a tame end.

England's run rate is falling too, plenty of pressure on next man Eoin Morgan.

  11. Eng 107-1published at 18 overs

    Roy 73 (60)

So another let off for Roy but he makes India pay instantly with yet another boundary.

It was a very tough chance but you feel India will rue giving Roy a lifeline.

  12. dropped catch

Roy dropped on 66published at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2017

Drama as Roy miscues a reverse sweep off Ashwin and Umesh Yadav can't quite cling on running back.

    Roy picks up two.

So everyone's refreshed and we're just about to get back underway in Pune.

Jason Roy has looked in sterling form so far - some of the shots may have looked ugly (see below) but the results have all been pretty.

Andy: Roy and Root making the Sunday morning ironing slightly less of a chore.

Theo: Roy looks in the mood to eclipse Hales' batting record... flawless knock so far.

Glen: Just caught Dhoni setting the field. You're not skipper anymore Mahendra.

The spinners have brought some order back to the innings, because England were running away with it. Roy has been very impressive. He has allowed Joe Root to settle in.

  16. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 17 overs

Another tidy, if largely nonthreatening, over from Jadeja as England can't quite bring up their 100 before drinks.

Pakistan look in decent shape to level the one-day series at 1-1 against Australia in Melbourne.

Having bowled Australia out for 220, with Mohammad Amir claiming 3-47, the tourists have reached 82-1 after 19 overs.

England are waiting on the spinners, not looking to play the big shots. They are mainly using the sweeps.

  19. Eng 95-1published at 16 overs

England dealing in singles against the spinners so far. No fireworks yet.
