You did think England could get up to 340 but now maybe not.

Buttler is the X-factor in this England team, he's the one that can completely demolish an attack.

How good is that? Kohli continues to shuffle his pack, employing more spin than a government adviser. Kedhar Jadhav is on with his round-arm, no-bounce off-breaks, pulled for four by the left-handed Stokes.

I don't think Buttler fully committed to that shot, it was slightly half-hearted. I wonder if him being hit on the neck the previous ball influenced his lack of conviction on the next shot? It was a good catch at deep mid-off.

Big, big wicket. One delivery after being hit on the back of the head by a Hardik Pandya slower-ball bouncer, Jos Buttler flat-bats straight to mid-off. England have lost wickets at poor times in this innings and again one goes down as they were looking to tickle the gas, to take control. India must be the happier team at the moment.

Excellent use of the feet from Buttler - Yuvraj dropped that a little bit shorter. He didn't get to the pitch of that but his hands were good enough to get him through it. Because it was a flat six, it got him out of trouble.

Fetch. Jos Buttler is starting to tick, dancing to whallop Yuvraj dead straight for six. No surprise there. What is a shock is Virat Kohli finally stopping the ball at cover. He even gets a cheer from the crowd. When he bats he looks like a man who can walk on water. His fielding today has looked like a man who has never played before.

You do get the sense from Jos Buttler... he's starting to move around and wants to get a move on but India have kept a degree of control.

While we consider what is a good score, it's worth remembering that this deck is resembling a portion of the M6 and this Pune ground, set against some rolling Indian country side, is roughly the size of Andrew Strauss' garden. Good deck, little ground = need plenty more than 300. Ravi Jadeja is done. 1-50 from 10. Top effort.

Sam Charlton: Good captaincy from Morgan by promoting Buttler. England need to step on the gas. He will encourage it.

James Frost: Nothing is certain in life except death, taxes and Joe Root scoring runs.

Richard Pettinger: Morgan had a great season in Big Bash and made a very fast score here. We depend on the whole batting line up not just Morgan.

Good lord, what's happened to Yuvraj Singh? Has he been taking grooming tips from Zlatan Ibrahimovic? The way he's got his hair tied back makes it look like someone has stuck a big drawing pin in the top of his head. The left-arm spin is still effective, though. The six from the over would only have been four if Virat Kohli had kept his legs closed at cover.

    First Test, Wellington

Bangladesh lost three quick wickets at the start of their second innings to give New Zealand an outside chance of claiming victory on the final day of the first Test in Wellington.

The tourists reached 66 for three in their second innings at the close of day four - a lead of 122.

Imrul Kayes was taken away on a stretcher after apparently pulling a muscle going for a quick single before Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and nightwatchman Mehedi Hasan fell in the space of 16 runs and 30 balls

Earlier New Zealand, boosted by a Test-best 177 from opener Tom Latham, were all out for 539 in reply to Bangladesh's 595-8 declared.

England will want at least 350. They have clean strikers of the ball all the way down.

380??? That's a bit of an ask, isn't it? Having said that, Joe Root looks set to move. You know the look. Like when your dad hears Meatloaf on the wireless and some iffy dancing is about to be busted on. Down on one knee to slog-sweep Jadeja over the deep mid-wicket fence. Six of the best. 10 off the over. I might have been too quick to scoff at 380.

I think 380 minimum on this deck. It looks a good pitch, strong batters and it's a small ground. We know how good India are at chasing.

Well played, Joe Root. The new dad celebrates the birth of his son with an 18th ODI half-century. Not the quickest, brought up in 72 balls, but the platform is there for a biggie. Only three fours, but some trademark scampering.

We know Joe Root is adaptable and is very good at assessing the conditions, and Jos Buttler is experienced enough now to do that himself. If there are two batsmen set at the end of the innings England have the ability to really go big.
