Incidentally, during the course of his innings, Jason Roy went second in the England ODI batting averages when batting second (minimum of 10 matches). He averages 47 in chases, just behind James Taylor's 55. Eoin Morgan is seventh at 42. Still hope. I think.

That's a brilliant bit of bowling by Ashwin. It came in to Stokes, who was lining it up as if it was going to spin away from him.

    Dew? What dew?

Ashwin uses the conditions to his advantage, getting one to slide on and skuttle through. It catches Ben Stokes by surprise and bowls the left-hander via the inside edge. England wobbling like a plate of blancmange.

Ben Stokes is sent out to ride to England's rescue while Jos Buttler plots his assault from the dressing room. Suddenly, 382 appears a long, long way away. India have their tails up now.

It's very well bowled. Roy was looking to push that on the off side and it turned. The value of having an experienced spinner, who backs himself, is shown.

    Roy b Jadeja 82 (Eng 170-3)

Jason Roy is bamboozled by some orthodox slow left-arm spin. He ties himself in knots trying to force the ball off the back foot but plays down the wrong line and the ball turns just enough to beat the bat and clatter into the stumps.

I've spoken to both Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings during this tour and they've both said England need somebody who bowls 90mph, left-arm over and has brilliant variety. That person is Tymal Mills. The question is whether Mills can last six or eight overs in this format with his injury record. He certainly couldn't do 10.

Thanks Alan. Where's your money, everyone?

England are well and truly in this game. What they don't need is their skipper scratching around for five overs. While Eoin Morgan is good at belting the ball out of the ground, he's not as good at rotating the strike.

Jason Roy has no such worries, the Surrey right-hander hammering Ashwin through the covers for four.

Jadeja actually increasing his pace between deliveries - he restricts a hurried-up Roy and Morgan to four from his eighth over.

Can England take this to the wire? We'll find out with Marc Higginson...

That was just the continuation of the off-drive and it sailed for six.

The boundaries had dried up in the last few overs but Roy has his second six a lovely, graceful loft over the rope at long-on. 13 off that Ashwin over. England have a chance here.

India's spinners Jadeja and Ashwin racing through their overs and not offering much. Six off the former's seventh over.

This is still achieavable for a team with the engine room of Morgan, Buttler, Moeen and Stokes.

  16. Eng 139-2published at 22 overs

Pressure very much on Morgan, who needs to play the captain Kohli role here and stick around and pace the chase. He can't get Ashwin away though as only a Roy single is conceded from that over.

Joe Root has played enough games now where he should know that you need to be ruthless when you're in a good partnership and the opposition are struggling.

  18. Eng 138-2 (target 382)published at 21 overs

    Roy 59 off 58 balls

England skipper Eoin Morgan is at the new man. A very rare boundary off Jadeja as Roy clubs him down to long-on. Ten off that over after his previous five had gone for only 19.

It's a huge blow for England. Joe was reaching for that one, it was like a half-hearted sweep. A welcome wicket for India.
