While the players took drinks, groundstaff used a rope to try and clear some of the dew from the outfield.

Is that interfering with the playing conditions as running across the wicket would? The dew obviously helps England and hinders India.

Just a thought - it's totally legal as far as I know. But is it fair?

Anyway, Moeen has clearly been told it's time to go for it by his skipper. He pulls Jadhav behind square for four and is running the singles a little harder.

I think it's going to be a close game. They have lost five but we know they have depth in their batting. We know David Willey can strike the ball. Anything is possible.

Jon Hunt: To use Panini parlance. Their shinys have been better than our shinys throughout the series.

  4. Eng 237-5published at 36 overs

    Ashwin 9-0-62-3

Ashwin scurries through a quiet over. One from it. Pressure.

In these next seven overs England need to get to 280. 100 from the last 10 overs is eminently doable.

  6. Eng 236-5published at 35 overs

Need 146 runs from 90 balls

Kedar Jadhav is all arms and legs before delivering his flat darts from round the wicket. Moeen has his measure for now, hitting across the line to carve four through the leg side.

Jonno Brocklebank: The running theme of this tour is that that a majority of the England wickets have been given rather than gained.

Graham Wilkins: Gutted Buttler is out but I'm a big fan of a leg-side stumping off a wide.

Daniel Davies: The amount of times I've heard "this is the pair who have to go on for England" and then don't is crazy.

  8. Eng 226-5published at 34 overs

    Target 382

The Indian fielders are showing more urgency than the English batsmen between overs. That tells you who is on top.

There is no time for sighters or playing yourself in - England need to go for boundaries and sixes.

For those who like a little bit of trivia with their Moeen Ali cover drive to the boundary, I've been researching Cuttack. I believe the city is famous for its steel and is named after an ancient fort. Happy for residents/previous visitors of Cuttack to shed more light for me.

Rich Hird: Surely the perfect set-up for Morgan to prove both batting and leadership skills now. Important innings for him.

Theo Bowyer: Morgan could prove the doubters wrong here... big century to take England over the line.

Joel Lang Syne: I may be responsible for that Stokes wicket. Gone first ball after switching on. Whoops.

  12. Eng 214-5published at 32 overs

    Need 168 from 108 balls

Eoin Morgan is playing a gem of an innings here - smashing six over long-on with another meaty swing of his bat. He plays that shot as well as anybody in world cricket. Perhaps only AB de Villiers does it better. A trademark six.

This was a well planned dismissal because they knew Buttler would give it the charge. It looks like England now need something extraordinary to win this game.

Buttler st Dhoni b Ashwin 10 (Eng 206-5)

Sometimes you have to stand back and admire your opponent.

Ashwin sees Buttler's intent, sends one down the leg side and the charging batsman is stumped by the man with the fastest hands in the east, MS Dhoni.

That's a fantastic shot, as good as anything Yuvraj Singh produced.

  16. Eng 204-4published at 31 overs

    Morgan 33 off 35

The lithe and perfectly-manicured Hardik Pandya returns to the attack. He could travel if England decide to put their foot to the metal.

    As I suspected...

Eoin Morgan goes for a wander and monsters a six over extra cover.

There was nobody back at long-on and that was a safe hit. Morgan was just waiting for one to be thrown up.

  18. Eng 193-4published at 30 overs

    Morgan 22, Buttler 10

    Fetch that!

Eoin Morgan decides enough is enough and belts Ashwin over long-on for six. A very Morgan-like shot. Lots of bottom hand, power and savagery.

England are still ahead but they mustn't lose any more wickets, and score at nine an over. So score at nine an over but don't take any more risks.

India's spinners are snake-like. They creep up, strike, wrap themselves around you and suck the life from your failing parts. How many times have Ashwin and Jadeja done this to England? Find out and add one to the tally.
