There's very little value for runs here. Even that boundary, which was well hit, struggled to get to the rope. You feel for the batsmen - unless you really nail it, it's not going to the rope.

  2. WI 51-3published at 14 overs

    Target 297

Woakes with his head in his hands as a ball angles in and finds the inside edge of Jason Mohammed's bat and bounces off the batsman's thigh. But better from Mohammed as he leaps off the crease and smashes a delivery past Eoin Morgan at backward point for a lovely looking four.

  3. WI 43-3published at 13 overs

    Target 297

Good line and length from Plunkett as West Indies look to rebuild. A nice cover drive from Hope for two runs to end the over.

There's still plenty of time in this game - but Windies will need a big partnership here.

Of course, West Indies off-spinner Jason Mohammed almost shares a name with a BBC Sport presenter...

  5. WI 40-3published at 12 overs

    Target 297

Jason Mohammed makes his way to the middle. Woakes sees off the over without conceding. Two wickets in two overs for England.

This has made me realise how good that Eoin Morgan innings was. We saw a lot of Morgan getting on top of balls like that. There we saw Brathwaite, completely confused. That's the difference in experience and tactical awareness, He just got himself into a tangle.

  7. wicket

    K Braithwaite c Rashid b Woakes 14 (WI 39-3)

Our TMS colleagues called it a 'disgusting shot' and they're spot on. Braithwaite was looking for a pull but didn't follow it through, instead he loops it in the air straight to Rashid at mid-on. England are on top here.

A dream start for Liam Plunkett. Shai Hope makes his way to the crease but four consecutive dot balls give a wicket maiden to the Yorkshire paceman. Top stuff.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.2 overs

    Powell c Roy b Plunkett 1 (WI 37-2)

Kieran Powell is out. Liam Plunkett strikes with his second ball of the day! A cutter on off stump and Powell, trying to work it off his hip, with an outside edge which gifts a simple chance to Jason Roy.

    Target 297

Kieran Powell is the man in at number three. He drives his second delivery into the covers nicely and the ball hits something, bouncing past Ben Stokes who ends up groping at thin air. He's off the mark from the next delivery though with a nicely nudged single. That's the end of the powerplay, too.

It was a poor shot. Lewis has favoured the leg side today. He had plenty of time and connected well but would have had to go a bit straighter to avoid the fielder. Well done to Woakes - he's always in the action.

A wicket that was very much helped by Steven Finn's control at the other end, I'd wager. Mind you, Evin Lewis made a real meal of it. It was a slower delivery and he pulled it straight down Billings' throat.

    WICKETpublished at 9.2 overs

    Lewis c Billings b Woakes 21 (WI 36-1)

Out! That's not ideal from Evin Lewis - Chris Woakes speared in a shorter, slower delivery, Lewis tried to pull it over the leg side and it hung in the air for an age. Sam Billings had plenty of time to steady himself and grab it.

  15. WI 36-0published at 9 overs

    Finn 5-0-18-0

I've been thoroughly told off by my workmates for getting my decades wrong - Staying Alive was, of course, released in 1977. Anyway. Bee Gees aside, Steven Finn is continuing and those two early long hops aside, this has been a good opening spell. Sam Billings pulls off an excellent, tumbling stop at long-on to keep Evin Lewis on strike, but Lewis manages to steal a single with a not particularly well timed pull out into the deep.

  16. WI 34-0published at 8 overs

A wide from Joe Root, as he slides a delivery down the leg side. The DJ starts playing Stayin' Alive as Root tidies off a pretty economical over. If there's not much doing on the pitch, stick on the 80's classics.

Ian Funnell: Can't believe England have gone back to Finn. He has been poor for 2 years. Would have been good time to blood someone new.

  18. WI 29-0published at 7 overs

    Brathwaite 11, Lewis 17

Steven Finn will continue, to the strains of singing from the England fans in the stands. He sends down a short ball that Evin Lewis tries to pull, but misses and the ball lands safely into the hands of short leg. Another tidy over from the fast bowler, though, who looks far better when he sticks to that straighter line.

Evin Lewis reminds me of Brian Lara in the way he plays.

  20. WI 27-0published at 6 overs

    Target 297

Some spin! In the form of Joe Root, who is bowling in sunglasses. That's a bold move, bringing on a spinner so early, although Jason Mohammed did get some deliveries to keep the batsmen quiet when he was brought on. Root has his hands on his head as he thinks he's surprised Kraigg Brathwaite with one that bounced a touch, but there's nothing doing. The batsmen trade single after single to keep things ticking over.
