Brathwaite is vulnerable to fast bowling directed at the body early in his innings. England will know that. He doesn't hook - it's not part of his game.

  2. WI 22-0published at 5 overs

    Finn 3-0-14-0

Steven Finn has found his radar. He goes straight to Kraigg Brathwaite and the batsman is forced to defend, before a quick flick of the wrists gets a single. Evan Lewis then plays all around his front pad, trying to work the ball through the leg side. Finn momentarily considers an appeal and then decides against it.

  3. WI 19-0published at 4 overs

A very tidy over from Chris Woakes, angling the ball in to Evin Lewis. The first ball was a horrible half volley that Lewis smashed straight to cover, and Woakes sorted his length out straight away. A maiden.

Evin Lewis is an aggressive, no-nonsense player. I don't have an issue with that as long as he is selective.

    Target 297

Eurgh. That's not good from Steven Finn. A horrid half-volley and Evin Lewis leathers it in beautiful fashion. One foot forward, driving it through the covers and it flies away to the boundary. The rest of the over is better, Finn sticking to a tighter line that cramps Lewis for room.

  7. WI 12-0published at 2 overs

    Lewis 6, Brathwaite 4

Chris Woakes will take the second new ball, and Evin Lewis gets his first runs with a push through the covers. There's a hint of swing for Woakes, who mixes up his lengths with a short ball that Lewis tries to pull and ends up bottom-edging into the turf. He gets a bit more bat on his next attempt at a pull shot, and the ball rolls away through square leg for four.

West Indies are under severe pressure because they have not qualified for the Champions Trophy and they might miss out on the World Cup too. They need to win as many games as possible.

West Indies need to be eighth or higher in the ICC ODI rankings on 30th September, 2017 to qualify outright and avoid a qualifier. The current rankings are here.

  9. WI 5-0published at 1 over

    Target 297

It is indeed Steven Finn, and the West Indies get under way with a loosener that slides wide down the off side. Kraigg Brathwaite then gets the first boundary with a nice bit of timing to a rubbish half-volley. He turns his wrists on a low delivery that skips away through square leg for four, before Finn tightens his line.

The innings hinged on that 100 from Eoin Morgan. He was the glue which held England together.

    Thanks, Alan.

Right, here we go. Steven Finn will open up the bowling, by the looks of things. He's whirling his arms around as Kraigg Brathwaite and Evin Lewis prepare themselves.

Not far from the resumption now as West Indies prepare to chase 297 to win the first ODI. Here's Amy Lofthouse to talk you through it...

Channonball: 296 is a great effort on a damp, spinning pitch. Form temporary, class permanent for Morgan, England to win by 30 runs.

  15. More on that man Stokespublished at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

Simon Hughes on TMS:  "You want Ben Stokes to understand when to really up the ante. He is someone the captain can turn to and give everything for five overs to try and make something happen. He's the kind of character who will recognise those moments and be able to deliver. You can't bowl quick all the time."

My esteemed colleague Marc Higginson has pointed out that Gravy appears to be dressed as a painter and decorator today. That's one of his more subdued outfits.

  18. Take a bow, Gravypublished at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

This is fantastic. Those of you beyond the age of 30 will probably remember the entertaining antics of Gravy in the stands at the old St John's Recreation Ground in Antigua. He'd hang from the rafters, dancing, swaying and generally having lots of fun. Sometimes he'd be dressed in women's clothes too. Well, he's been given a special honour for bringing a smile to so many faces over the years.

Ben Stokes in his pre-match TMS interview:  "It's an inexperienced team from the West Indies but we can't go into this game thinking it's a walk in the park because we know how talented these players are. If we do do that, it's dangerous territory for us."
