Dockrell drops short and Root sweeps it away to the fine-leg fence to record the 50 partnership between Test and one-day captains.

Just to give you a flavour of where your listeners are, l'm in south-eastern Spain, overlooking the Bay of Mazarron. The sun is high in the sky with a warm gentle breeze. Listening to Aggers, Swanny, Wordsmith etc. Does it get any better? Oh wait! My wife has just brought out 'Tapas' and a cold beer. Absolute heaven.

Root clips the industrious McCarthy stylishly off the back foot but Gary Wilson scampers along the boundary to restrict them to two, as the sun makes a welcome appearance in NW8.

Morgan brings up the England 100 with the second six, pulling a short one from Dockrell over mid-wicket and it pitches just in front of the advertising board, with the padded boundary rope a few metres in.
He may have gone, but moments before losing his wicket, Jason Roy had Graeme Swann purring with this drive.
Root 16, Morgan 24
Usually a sprinkling of celebrities around at Lord's, might be a little too early in the season for the likes of Liz Hurley. Instead it's the cricketing celebrity world, with former Ireland coach Phil Simmons and ex-England captain Graham Gooch amongst the names in the house. Morgan collects his second four with a fiercely-struck pull shot.

It is one of those periods where England are rebuilding, nudging it around, nothing electric. They don't need to right at this stage. There is plenty of batting in this side.
Root 15, Morgan 18
Spin for the first time as the slow left-armer George Dockrell, who has an ODI best of 4-24, saunters in from the Nursery End. He has several layers on, something blue under his green shirt and sleeveless sweater. Smart work from Andy Balbirnie on the mid-wicket boundary denies Root a four but England keep accumulating the runs steadily.
It wasn't Jason Roy's best innings today and it was a pretty tame dismissal.

Niall O'Brien up to the stumps to his younger brother Kevin, always a blow to the ego of someone trying to bang the ball in with menace. Morgan skilfully works it to the third man boundary for England's 11th boundary. Time for an official drinks break.

McCarthy bustles in again, plenty of effort if not express pace. He's got a fashionable haircut, shaved at the sides and flowing across the top, like a young Jason Donovan. He actually reminds me a little of former Spurs striker Steffen Iversen. Just singles conceded in that one.

A classic shot from Morgan, getting on the front foot to a bit of width. That is the England captain at his best. If he decides to get on the attack he can swing this game firmly in England's favour.
Root 8, Morgan 8
Masterful from Morgan, dancing down the wicket and hoisting O'Brien for the first maximum of the day, down the ground towards the pavilion, the boundary in a bit from its usual spot, the picket fence up the slope.
Sounds like a few boos for England's Irish captain Eoin Morgan as he comes to the crease. Unless it's my new sound box. There are quite a few of his native countrymen in attendance but the Middlesex left-hander gets off the mark first ball.
After a promising start for Alex Hales, here's the moment he lost his wicket after a fine piece of bowling from Tim Murtagh.

McCarthy got a bit of away shape. Roy hit it very well but straight to Stirling at extra cover. That is a very happy bowler. He has a wicket.
