  1. SA 59-1published at 10 overs

Du Plessis tries to flick through leg - that looked like it would have been in the air - but gets an inside edge into the pad. Just three from a tight Plunkett over. England were 58-1 after 10 overs so not much in it here. Time for Adil Rashid's leggies...

  2. Watch: Quinton de Kock caught by Buttler off Woakespublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 24 May 2017

Here's how Chris Woakes nabbed Quinton de Kock, thanks to excellent scampering and catching from Jos Buttler...

  3. SA 56-1published at 9 overs

    Amla 30 off 31, du Plessis 21 off 11

There's so little margin for error in ODIs now - Woakes is just a tad short and du Plessis pulls for four. The next one is very short and very wide though - and is cut away for four more as South Africa bring up their 50. A couple of balls later, the same again. After Woakes' first four overs went for 11, the last six balls yielded 14.

Steve Belshaw: One feels SA will fancy taking Mark Wood apart. Early days, but his bowling looks somewhat uncomfortable and forced.

  5. SA 42-1published at 8 overs

Unsurprisingly Mark Wood is given a rest after three expensive overs and Liam Plunkett is on. A hint of a run out chance but Alex Hales is off balance when he throws and the ball isn't anywhere close. Amla then plays a first false shot of the innings, as a leading edge falls a little short of Eoin Morgan.

A friend and I were at a Somerset T20 match last summer and, in between innings, were discussing whether to buy one or two beers each to take back into the stands with us. Someone walked past overheard and advised us to "double up - always double up". It was only when he was walking away that we realised it was Marcus Trescothick. We were very happy with that accidental meeting!

  7. SA 38-1 (target 340)published at 7 overs

    Woakes 4-0-11-1, Wood 3-0-27-0

Test captain Faf du Plessis is in and drives square, with a hint of a thickish edge, for four. I may be being harsh on him there though.

There was a moment there where you saw Buttler's legs paddling away. He wasn't quite sure he was going to make it. Buttler took responsibility and I think Mark Wood was happy to let him do so - he got out of the way nicely.

That would have been swirling all over the place up there. Buttler had to make the most ground to get there. He took it on his knees, falling away, and that's a very fine catch indeed.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.2 overs

    de Kock c Buttler b Woakes 5 (SA 33-1)

My word that is high... up, up, up, swirling away after a top edge from de Kock but great pouch from Jos Buttler who was heading in the direction of fine leg. Woakes has started superbly here and has earned that wicket.

  11. SA 33-0published at 6 overs

    Amla 28, de Kock 5

Short and wide from Wood and Hashim Amla feasts on that, pulled for four. Next ball, exactly the same again. Far too easy for Amla. The last ball of the over is much fuller but too full and Amla leans into it with another picture-perfect drive. Three overs and 0-27 from Wood. Time for a blow, surely.

Have a look at another Amla boundary through mid-wicket off Wood below...

Both batsmen, without taking any risks at all, seem to be settling in. Sides don't even get too ruffled about the prospect of chasing 340 any more.

  13. SA 21-0published at 5 overs

Morgan diving about again, leading by example in every respect today. It's a bit becalmed at Headingley at the moment - many of the spectators still finishing off their tea presumably. Three singles added as Woakes continues to keep it tight.

This is the first time England have made 300 at home against South Africa. It's also their second highest total against SA. The highest is 399 at Bloemfontein in February 2016.

  15. SA 18-0 (target 340)published at 4 overs

Class from Amla, rolling the wrists for the first boundary of the innings off Wood. And that's a gorgeous drive - elbow high and all that - racing away for four more. He's looking ominous already.

  16. Additional searches at Lord's on Mondaypublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 24 May 2017

Following the bomb attack at Manchester Arena and the change of the national threat level to 'critical', Lord's will carry out additional searches on Monday at the third and final ODI against South Africa.

An MCC statement said:, external "While there is no reason to believe that there is a specific threat to Lord’s, additional searches will be carried out on all visitors to the ground and anyone planning to attend the match is asked to allow extra time to pass through these vital checks.

"Spectators are also asked to “travel light” and bring with them only essential items, leaving bags at home if at all possible."

  17. SA 9-0published at 3 overs

Morgan clapping his hands and shouting encouragement to his team-mates as he fields an Amla punch off the back foot. Good start from Woakes, not much for Amla nor de Kock to go at.

  18. SA 7-0published at 2 overs

    Amla 4, de Kock 3

Mark Wood hints at some swing to start with and then makes a statement to Quinton de Kock - really bending his back and putting extra effort into a bouncer that pings off the pitch. Could he have been wided for that? It was pretty high. De Kock then gets off the mark with three before Amla picks up a couple more.

It's difficult to know how good a total 340 is in this century. Last century, it was game over. By no means here are England home and safe. It's a very good total but it's not invincible.

  20. SA 1-0 (target 340)published at 1 over

Amla away instantly with a single. De Kock launches into a cover drive but that is a superb stop from captain Eoin Morgan, diving full length and holding on to it. Brilliant. There's a man feeling good about his cricket right now.
