  1. Eng 159-3published at 27 overs

Here's Mark Wood, and there goes Mark Wood. Glorious from De Villiers, straight driving right past the bowler and down to the boundary. And that's another glorious shot, a whirl of the wrists to turn Wood away for another four.

A big wicket for England. Du Plessis was looking ominious; on his way to his half-century he notched 4,000 ODI runs.

  3. SA 151-3published at 26 overs

    Plunkett 6-0-27-1

Faf didn't look too happy with that but he didn't review it, and Buttler went up straight away behind the stumps. The batsman had got into a bit of a tangle trying to play that one, mind.

Two big wickets for England. It's good captaincy - he took Moeen off straight, sensing a chance to get De Villiers. Morgan brought back Plunkett and he got Du Plessis. It must have been a thin one, bu Du Plessis knew he hit it otherwise he would have reviewed.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 25.4 overs

    Du Plessis c Buttler b Plunkett 67 (SA 149-3)

That is excellent captaincy from Eoin Morgan - he brings Liam Plunkett back on and he gets a wicket!

Plunkett had been brought on to get de Villiers but he's managed to dislodge du Plessis. Du Plessis was trying to flick his wrists and tickle the ball down the leg side, but all he's managed to do is send a thin edge through to Buttler.

Cheers, Al. Not to dampen any spirits but that Amla wicket occurred during the one bit where I was away from my desk.

  7. SA 145-2published at 25 overs

That was a 112-run partnership from Amla and du Plessis. Just two runs and wicket from that Wood over. Liam Plunkett is back for England and Amy Lofthouse is returning for us. All yours, Amy...

It hit him on the front pad but his back leg was a long way across. By the end all you were worried about - if you wanted the wicket - was height. That's a critical and very good review. It's not straightforward from here on in, though.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24.3 overs

Amla 73 lbw Wood (SA 145-2)

It was very close. In fact, it's out! England needed that... Amla went across his stumps and that was hitting middle and leg from Mark Wood. Great review. AB de Villiers the new man.

  10. England reviewpublished at 24.3 overs

Big appeal for lbw against Hashim Amla off Wood. Ump says no but England review... looks close...

Arjan Sohanpal: England's bowling attack looking very tame at the moment. Time for Root? Old golden-arm himself.

  12. SA 143-1published at 24 overs

Good tumbling stop from Woakes to keep Amla's sweep to two. Easy accumulation continuing with five off Moeen's second over. The tourists need 197 from 156 balls with nine wickets in hand.

Wood has conceded seven boundaries in four overs.

  15. SA 138-1 (target 340)published at 23 overs

Mark Wood is back. Can he exert more control this time after his first three overs went for 27? He starts well enough but then drops short again to du Plessis. He'll lean back and pull those away all day long. Next ball he's down the track and smacks it in the air just wide of third man. Wood's figures now 4-0-39-0. All too easy for South Africa at the moment.

Du Plessis started off so well with some beautiful shots. He looks in good touch.

  17. 50 runs

50 for du Plessis - SA 126-1published at 22 overs

50 for Faf du Plessis now, as Moeen Ali can't collect and the South African reaches the mark off 47 balls. Six fours for him so far. Amla has eight boundaries in his 67.

Ben Thapa: If Bairstow wants to know who to blame for his omission from the side, try Stokes. England don't trust him as one of five bowlers

  19. SA 122-1published at 21 overs

    Amla 65 off 67, du Plessis 49 off 46

Du Plessis has mis-timed quite a few so far but he hasn't got into any bother with them - he hoicks Rashid in the air towards long-on and gets away with it. Moeen Ali coming on with Stokes off for treatement...

  20. SA 116-1published at 20 overs

    Stokes 2-0-14-0, Rashid 5-0-27-0

Short and not particularly fast from Stokes and Du Plessis smacks it away for four. The all-rounder is still grimacing. Something's definitely bothering him. At the end of the over he gesticulates towards the dressing room, puts his hand up and is now walking off the pitch. Jonny Bairstow is on, though not in the circumstances anyone would have wanted.
