  2. 50 for Jos Buttlerpublished at 47.3 overs

    Eng 297-5

An innings of two halves from Joseph Buttler. At first it looked like he'd never batted before, then he kicked into gear with four straight fours. A half-century reached with a scoop. 46 balls, his 13th in ODIs.

Matt Swift: This is why you have Buttler in over Bairstow, consistently hits the afterburners at the death.

This is an excellent over by Kagiso Rabada. Yorker after yorker, real pace, watching the batsmen move around and hiding the ball. Only two and a leg bye from it. Buttler made to wait for a half-century.

England scored 22 off that over - 12 was the previous highest total from an over.

Having scored just one boundary in his first 38 balls, Jos Buttler now has four in a row.

It's amazing, Jos Buttler has played badly but he's now 48 not out. It's like he's suddenly flicked a switch and remembered how to play.

He's a very good hockey player too Buttler and guys that play hockey tend to be very wristy.

Pulled for four! 22 of the over. England are moving miles out of sight.

My musical tastes have changed dramatically since my three wonderful children were born. I'm a big fan of Katy Perry now. I make sure to listen with the headphones on, though.

  12. Eng 280-5published at 45.4 overs

Better from Buttler, who finally middles one and pulls Phehlukwayo for four. The glove-love that Buttler gives to Moeen shows how long he's been waiting for. The England keeper follows up with a clip fine for four more. Be ready...

Before today, Jos Buttler averaged a boundary every 7.3 balls. Today he's scored just one four in 38 balls.

  14. Eng 267-5published at 45 overs

Business end now, big boys' stuff. Chris Morris with the ball, tossing it from hand to hand in the breeze. It's good stuff - he's finding the full ball well, just as he did at Headingley. The occasional bumper keeps Moeen honest. Jos Buttler still looks like a man batting with someone else's arms.

I like Jos Buttler's idea - he's batting so badly right-handed, he's just switching his hands and playing everything on the reverse. He looks in good touch when he plays left-handed.

Moeen Ali is the new man, fresh off some top boshing at Headingley on Wednesday. He watches as the rubber-wristed Jos Buttler gets all reverse-sweepy, then gets going with a dance and drive through the covers for four.

Well done Ben Stokes, equalling his highest score. I think just a little bit of tiredness crept in at the end there.

Keshav Maharaj finally gets his man, just 79 balls and 101 runs later.

I hope there is a very sheepish Hashim Amla offering Maharaj a nice cuddle.

    Stokes c Miller b Maharaj 101 (Eng 252-5)

The end of a wonderful knock, with Keshav Maharaj finally getting his man 101 runs later. Ben Stokes goes after a wide one, toe-ends it and is held at long-off by David Miller. Stokes is livid with himself, but gets fantastic applause from the Southampton crowd. South Africa will be delighted to see the back of him.

It's quite fitting that it was Hashim Amla on the boundary who allowed a single to be turned into two for Ben Stokes to bring up his century, given the South African dropped him on nought.

Alex Hales, take note - when you're dropped, you cash in.

It's a wonderful century, his second in 55 one-day internationals.
