Kagiso Rabada celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Rabada has taken 59 wickets since the last World Cup - he made his debut just after that tournament - and he is the second highest wicket-taker in ODIs in that time, behind England's Adil Rashid who has 60.

Rabada's 59 have come in 36 matches at an average of 25. The next highest pace bowler is New Zealand's Trent Boult who has 47 from 23 games.

  2. Eng 20-1published at 6 overs

    Hales 9, Root 1

Hales calls a very risky single off Morris, fortunately it's not a clean pick-up by David Miller, otherwise Root was struggling.

The England number three then gets off the mark, tucking Morris round the corner.

Another very short ball is called a wide.

Another very short ball is then smeared by Hales over the off side for four. A remarkable shot, like a baseball swing up around his head.

dukkhaboy: 93.2 mph off stump yorker - very handy

Dan Gee: Roy was a walking wicket, but that ball was filth.

  4. Eng 13-1published at 5 overs

    Rabada 3-0-8-1

Joe Root is met with a couple of short deliveries - one is so short that it's rightly called a wide.

Rabada comes back, probing outside off once again but Root is watchful and plays out the rest of the over.

That's quick and straight. It's done Roy for pace. He's looking to play across the line and he hasn't got the bat down in time.

There's nothing worse for an opening batsman than losing your off stump.

    Roy b Rabada 8 (Eng 12-1)

Oooft. Another failure for Jason Roy, another mightily impressive bit of bowling from Kagiso Rabada.

The young South African rearranges Roy's stumps with a full, quick, lethally accurate delivery.

    It's super quick actually - a 93 mph yorker.

Off Roy trudges, in comes Joe Root.

  8. Eng 12-0published at 3.3 overs

Jason Roy picks up a streaky single, his bat not coming down straight to a decent Chris Morris delivery as the England opener edges it fortunately well over the head of backward point.

Bit of a warning for Roy there...

England come into this match having tasted defeat in five of their last six ODIs at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton; winning last time out however against Pakistan in August 2016.

These sides have met at this ground before, with South Africa securing an 80-run victory over England in 2012.

  10. Eng 11-0published at 3 overs

Rabada to continue, nothing much doing until he digs one in short that rushes Roy, who bottom edges it into his elbow.

The Surrey batsman takes a moment, but he's fine to carry on soon enough.

Rabada closing in on a maiden but Roy pushes into leg to grab a quick single.

  11. Eng 10-0published at 2 overs

    Roy 6, Hales 4

Hales finds the fielder cutting a short-pitched ball from Morris but doesn't miss out from the next - flicking a nice shot through leg for four, similar to Roy in the first over.

Morris responds well to end the over with a few dots but Hales sees him off easily enough.

  12. Eng 6-0published at 1.1 overs

It's Chris Morris to open alongside Rabada after Wayne Parnell was left out.

He'll have a go at Alex Hales, who calmly defends the first ball.

  13. Eng 6-0published at 1 over

Watchful stuff from Jason Roy as he plays at two balls, leaves one, then tucks a two into the leg side to get off the mark.

But the opener follows it with a lovely push through mid-wicket for four before leaving the last.

    Solid start.

South Africa are a very strong side but AB de Villiers makes all the difference. If he gets back to his brilliant self then they are a major force to be reckoned with.

The teams are out on the field in Southampton and we'll be under way shortly.

Vic Marks said on the TMS Facebook live earlier that whichever side chased would win.

So can England prove him wrong?

    Jos ButtlerImage source, Rex Features

Jos Buttler hasn't scored many runs in ODIs but his last cricket was the IPL and he's done pretty well for Mumbai indians, without setting the world on fire, and he always got his runs quickly.

There's no way England will want to go into the Champions Trophy without him.

  18. 'Could be a tricky first hour - Morganpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 27 May 2017

England captain Eoin Morgan: "There are completely different conditions today so it'll be interesting to see if the ball moves around.

"It could be a tricky first hour. The wicket looks a belter when the sun is out and it's dry but there's a tinge of green.

"Woakesy pulled up after fielding yesterday so he's not worth the risk ahead of the Champions Trophy. Ben Stokes is ready to bowl and ready to bat - he's 100% fit."

  19. We must improve - De Villierspublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 27 May 2017

South Africa captain AB de Villiers: "We felt we made the right decision in the last game in bowling first but didn't do the basics in all three departments. The conditions make it easier to choose to bowl but we have to improve on Wednesday.

"We never got into fifth gear, we were off the pace, especially away from home against a side as strong as England.

"We've made three changes because we want all 15 of our players to get experience of playing in this country before the Champions Trophy."
