I'm really impressed with Jake Ball. He's getting decent pace and getting just enough movement into the batsmen.

  2. SA 104-3published at 19 overs

    Target 154

The skipper in now and if he went there really would be some intrigue. Three slips and a gully for Roland-Jones, who has clearly eschewed the razor for a while.

Good bowling from Jake Ball - that's our third positive of the day (after Roland-Jones and Bairstow)!

    Du Plessis c Buttler b Ball 5 (SA 101-3)

Well South Africa have had some collapses in their time but they are not going to blow it from here surely?! He may be called Faf but he was not going to hang around. It was rather similar to many of England's dismissals earlier, a little wide and the batsman having a dart at it. Good low catch from Buttler and Ball has 2-41.

  7. SA 99-2published at 17 overs

    Target 154

Four slips for Roland-Jones as he charges in from the Pavilion End and it's a maiden for the debutant. Skies still a little heavy and floodlights still shining brightly, but no thunderstorms yet.

  9. SA 99-2published at 16 overs

    Target 154

It's livened up now, Faf Du Plessis the new batsman and he goes for it first ball with a thick edge that flies over the three slips and away to the boundary.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.3 overs

    De Kock b Ball 34 (SA 95-2)

What a beautiful delivery, the old sand shoe crusher. De Kock is beaten all ends up and England have two wickets in four balls.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15 overs

    Amla b Roland-Jones 55 (SA 95-1)

He'd been struck for two glorious boundaries through the off side but Toby Roland-Jones has a maiden international wicket and it is a prized one, Hashim Amla, who had hit almost everything out of the middle of the bat, but got a bottom edge to this pull shot and it flew into the stumps.

  13. SA 84-0published at 14 overs

    Target 154

No justice for Ball, he nips one back off the seam but Amla gets an inside edge for four, to bring up his fifty from 51 balls, his 24th in ODIs. He then bowls a wide. Sport is a cruel lady isn't she?

  15. SA 75-0published at 13 overs

    Target 154

They turn to the debutant, Toby Roland-Jones, who impressed with the bat earlier, making an unbeaten 37 from as many balls, the second highest score. He has a nice smooth approach to the crease and beats De Kock's edge with his first delivery, but is then driven stylishly to the boundary by the left-hander, whose name continues to provide amusement for many, including ex-England captains.

England have got to try something - even if it's putting a couple of extra slips in and a short leg.

  17. SA 67-0published at 12 overs

    Target 154

Quite a few are still milling around behind the playing area, Lord's very much a social event, whatever the weather. Another sumptuous back foot drive from Amla brings him four more off Ball, who then beats him with a good one that moves away off the surface, which still has tinges of green.

  18. Postpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

Welcome back, we're just about ready to resume with South Africa needing a further 95 from 39 overs with all 10 wickets intact. The one obstacle in their way might be the weather, but though it remains decidedly overcast it is dry at the moment as De Kock and Amla make their way through a rather quiet lower tier of the pavilion, the members no doubt still enjoying the hospitality.

The good thing for England is that it's not going to count for a great deal. It's not a bad time for it to happen, a reminder you can't just turn up and play the same way regardless of the conditions. It's not often we've said recently that the England one-day side has had a bad day.

  20. Amla makes historypublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

A nice moment for Hashim Amla as he becomes the fastest batsman to reach 7,000 ODI runs, in his 150th innings, beating the previous record set by India captain Virat Kohli, who took 161 innings. He did so in style with a boundary, one of seven he has hit so far in his 34 not out.
