  1. Eng 117-7published at 24 overs

    Parnell 8-0-43-4

Shot! That's a cracking drive from Roland-Jones, one foot down the pitch and pushing the ball down the slope. And again! Horrid fielding from Kasigo Rabada down on the boundary, making a real meal of a one-handed dive, and the ball slides into the ropes. AB comes over for a chat with Parnell, just as the skies start to darken around Lord's.

Roland-Jones has his highest first-class and List A scores on this ground - 65 in a one-day match for Middlesex this season and also a Championship century.

  3. 6 runs

    Eng 109-7published at 23 overs

Ooh! Close for South Africa as Toby Roland-Jones flicks a leading edge up into the air and the ball drops just short of Rabada. Another short ball from Chris Morris and this time TRJ turns it around the corner and away for four! Huge round of applause from the Lord's crowd. And that's six! It's mostly a top edge as TRJ swings and swings hard, but they all count. 11 from the over!

You're not going to win a game with 120. If you can they somehow sneak 170-180 you then have something to bowl at. It's certainly going to be hard work trying to find another 90 or so with only three wickets left.

  5. Eng 98-7published at 22 overs

    Bairstow 40, Roland-Jones 6

On the subject of Bairstow, he opened for Yorkshire in their past four List A matches - it brought about scores of 8, 29, 174 and 28. I just don't see England changing their top order this close to an international competition. Another good over from Wayne Parnell rattles by, Parnell tempting Bairstow to drive, before Bairstow pulls a single into the deep. Ironic cheers from the crowd as Parnell sends down a high, wide delivery that runs away for four wides.

Not to put the mockers on anything but here is the last England wicket to fall - David Willey, caught by JP Duminy after a stand of 62 with Jonny Bairstow.

  7. Eng 91-7published at 21 overs

Roland-Jones puts his helmet back on, settles himself and watches a Morris delivery pass by his off stump. The good news is, of course, that England have surpassed their lowest ODI score of 86. Up next, their lowest ODI score against South Africa - 103, made at The Oval in 1999.

Roland-Jones seems to be OK, which is good news. It was a quick delivery from Morris and caught Roland-Jones on the side of the helmet as he turned his head away.

Roland-Jones has taken a standing count.

  10. ouch!

    Eng 91-7published at 20.4 overs

That's lovely from Roland-Jones, easing an over-pitched Morris delivery away through mid-off for four. Ooh, Morris responds with a short ball that clanks TRJ on the helmet. The South Africa fielders at close range come in to check he's OK, as does Bairstow and the umpires, before the physio comes on.

If England are going to leave out Jonny Bairstow they must have a fine team. Jason Roy hasn't set the world alight but are you going to leave him out on Thursday against Bangladesh on his home ground at The Oval? The answer is no.

  12. Eng 87-7published at 20 overs

    Bairstow 39, Roland-Jones 1

And TRJ gets off the mark straight away, nudging a single and jogging down the wicket. Meanwhile, up in the South Africa dressing room, David Miller is off the pitch and having a chat with some of the backroom staff. Four! That's lovely from Bairstow, latching on to a shortish delivery and pulling with aplomb to the boundary.

Here's Toby Roland-Jones on his ODI debut, coming in with England 82-7. Presumably not how he saw things going this morning.

Willey played very nicely, supported his Yorkshire teammate Jonny Bairstow. The ball was there to drive and he didn't quite execute it. I'm not going to be too critical because he's not a frontline batsman, its the top order you have to look at and ask why, after five overs, England were 20-6.

    Willey c Duminy b Parnell 26 (Eng 82-7)

Ah... In absolute fairness to David Willey, he's done a job here, sticking around, keeping Bairstow company. He goes for a big drive on the up but doesn't time it well enough, and JP Duminy takes a good grab at cover.

  16. Eng 82-6published at 19 overs

Willey tries a swivel-pull that doesn't quite come off, so he settles for bunting a Morris short ball away for a single. A superb dive from Faf du Plessis, leaping to his right and sticking a mitt out, cuts off a Bairstow boundary.

  17. Postpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 29 May 2017

It's shots like these from Bairstow that have shown just how tame England's dismissals were this morning. The ball isn't doing all that much...

  18. Eng 79-6published at 18 overs

    Parnell 5-0-23-2

Pick your fielder, fellas. David Willey nudges the ball in the direction of Morne Morkel, who throws all six foot five inches of himself down to the ground with all the grace of a baby foal. He misses, naturally, diving over the ball as England nab a single. Bowler Wayne Parnell readjusts and swings the ball into Bairstow's pads for the rest of the over.

I definitely don't think it was doing that much. Bairstow is a good timer of the ball, especially now he's got more upright and letting the ball come to him.

  20. Eng 76-6published at 17 overs

    Bairstow 34, Willey 21

Ah, the spin experiment lasted all of three overs. AB's thrown the ball to Chris Morris, and is rewarded by watching Willey slap the ball away to the boundary. Say it quietly, but it really doesn't look that dangerous out there any more. That's the 50 partnership up too, from 70 balls, and the over is rounded off with a glorious late cut from Bairstow.
