Here's a clip of a cracking pull shot from Vernon Philander off Stuart Broad a few overs ago. It's all a bit more circumspect now.

These two have played very well. The game is nicely poised.
350 would be a par score.
It looks like South Africa have battened down the hatches with six overs left in the day. Just one run off Stuart Broad's 18th over as Vernon Philander works one of his pads.
A maiden over from James Anderson. South Africa's batsmen playing watchfully this late in the day.

Jimmy Anderson doesn't like bowling without a square leg. He is fairly stuck in his ways.
A bit of swing about for England's bowlers but South Africa's batsmen have negotiated the new ball pretty well so far. Stuart Broad's first over with the fresh nut includes a short ball to Vernon Philander, who emphatically belts it through midwicket for four.
That brings up the 50 partnership for Philander and Chris Morris.
Anderson's second delivery with the new cherry swings away and takes the edge of Philander's bat but the South African is in control of the shot as he plays it with soft hands. It falls short of Joe Root in the slip cordon.
The Lancashire seamer's final ball is a touch wider and streaks through point and to the boundary. Philander played it well.

Get a third slip in Joe.
Philander 24 Morris 19
Keaton Jennings has 18 first-class wickets and it's lack of pace that is giving South Africa's batsmen something to think about.
A smirk from Jonny Bairstow as Jennings beats the outside edge. England bowling coach Ottis Gibson also affords himself a chuckle up in the stands.
Here comes the new ball... James Anderson back into the attack.
Vernon Philander cuts loose. Well, in relative terms. A full ball from Moeen Ali is driven down the ground for four.
A bit of a left field move by Joe Root as part-timer Keaton Jennings is brought on for the final over before the new ball is due.

It is a passage of play where everyone sitting and waiting for the new ball. England are trying to get through with as little damage as possible and South Africa the same.
Liam Dawson gives one a bit of air and Morris swings the willow. However, he fails to make clean contact. After a slow over rate England are rattling through them now.
Both Vernon Philander and Chris Morris showing the maker's name again.
The physio is on to administer some eye drops to the former. A touch of hayfever perhaps, Vernon?
I feel for you - the pollen has played havoc for sensitive club cricketers all over the UK in the past few weeks.

I expected these two to be a little more positive. They are just playing out to the new ball not taking any risks.
I thought they might take the opportunity to counter-attack.
Vernon Philander blocks out a maiden over from Liam Dawson. Both sides going through the motions a little until the new ball is offered in four overs.

South Africa are just ticking it over.
You can probably start to refer to Philander as an all-rounder.
It is always important to get something from your bowlers. It is a sign of the strength of your team if your bowlers will guts it out.
A period of attritional cricket here. Neither Chris Morris nor Vernon Philander are looking to take on either Moeen Ali or Liam Dawson. Three singles are milked off Ali's sixth over as both players resist the big shot.

From the official programme. Pretty impressive. Did anyone have Willey down as being that quick off the mark?
Alastair Cook dashes off the pitch for a quick break. He has to carefully usher a silver-haired lady on the steps out of the way to get the dressing room.
We've all been there in the frozen section at the supermarket trying to get to the pizzas, haven't we?
Liam Dawson has changed ends but South Africa's players are playing watchfully. Spin from both ends now.
