Amla 65 Du Plessis 0
It'll be the big two after tea as Jimmy Anderson comes in from the other end.
He's in deep discussion with Joe Root about the field before the first delivery. I'm not sure they're seeing entirely eye to eye.
Hashim Amla looks happy to let the Anderson over go by but he's beaten on the last delivery. Hash played and missed at that one and Jimmy knows it.
Broad 2-26
South Africa captain Faf du Plessis strides out the middle for his first involvement in this series following the birth of his child.
Good forward defence. Solid. That'll settle the nerves. And now a good leave. Du Plessis has been away but hasn't forgotten where his off stump is.

Whatever Quinton de Kock ate at tea made him far too relaxed. Blame the Trent Bridge scones!

It was such a straightforward catch, I'd called 'caught' before it was safely into his hands.
De Kock c Cook b Broad 68 (SA 179-3)
First ball after tea! Unbelievable. De Kock wafts outside off stump and edges to Cook at first slip.
The former skipper has already dropped one and juggled this one but managed to hold on. What did Joe Root say during the interval?
The players will be back out in a sec but I just wanted to draw your attention to this excellent thought from Tim Bresnan and his Yorkshire team-mates.
The team are wearing football shirts in the warm-up to tonight's Roses T20 match in tribute to young football fan Bradley Lowery who passed away recently.
Sunderland fan Bradley's funeral took place with big crowds - all wearing the football shirt of their team - in the North East today with Jermain Defoe and a number of his former Sunderland team-mates in attendance.
But Amla did offer one chance that Alastair Cook could not hold on to.
How big a miss could this be?

Hashim Amla has done the hard yards and now he's booking himself in for a long time. He's beginning to play some lovely strokes.
There have been some textbook strokes from both Amla who has reached 65 and De Kock who is on 68.

South Africa will have focused on putting together a big partnership. They've got one now and have really found their flow.
It feels like a while ago but one wicket did fall in that session when Stuart Broad bowled Heino Kuhn for 34.
Since then Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock have put on 113 and are batting their team into a good position.

Gus Walton: Best shot - Ricky Ponting pulling. Seemed to have all the time in the world to play it. That's coming from an Englishman!
Chris Pritchard: Paul Collingwood's forward defence was a thing of beauty.
Matt: Best shot? David Gower's cover drive.

That was South Africa's first good session since the opening morning of the series at Lord's.
Another boundary to bring Stokes closer to boiling point. This time another textbook drive from Amla.
That's tea. De Kock puts his arms around Hashim's shoulders. Very much the visitor's session.
I'd stay away from Ben Stokes during the tea break. He creates another opening as Amla top edges a pull yet again but the ball falls short of Mark Wood running in.
Wood was head down, neck outstreched like that horse impression he does but nothing doing.

Niall Allen: The Michael Vaughan cover drive circa 2003.
Philip Rodgers: My fave cricket shot was Steve Waugh's slog sweep.
Ben Wire: I always enjoyed Darren Gough's sublime slog.
That wasn't quite what I was after, Ben.
Good over from Moeen Ali. A maiden. De Kock looks to stay on the attack but he can't do anything with six balls on the money.
I think we'll have one more over before the tea interval.

De Kock has changed the game. He's got South Africa into a good position.

Stokes generally creates something. That would have been a hell of a catch from Anderson but that's the second chance, after Cook dropped Amla.
