A lucky four for Chase. Moeen gives it some flight and a thick outside edge sends the ball flying a few feet to the right of Ben Stokes at slip. Aside from that, West Indies seem to be picking these deliveries form Moeen, dissecting the field for the ones and twos.
Nine from the over. This has been a long session - just seven or so minutes to go.

Viv Richards, when you first saw him, played a lot of balls leg side. The difference between Viv and these players is they play across the line. He got his head over to play it with a straight bat. His body and his head were over, so his eyes were on the line, and there was less chance of missing it.
WI 65-3
Stokes has his head in hands. Mark Stoneman at short-leg has spilled one. Roston Chase got his bat forward and worked it onto the leg side - it was low down but should have been taken. It wasn't coming at any real pace.
One from the over, Chase off the mark.

There was just an incredible conversation between captain and vice-captain, conducted over about 50 yards. Stokes at the end of his run, Root at second slip. Stokes sends square leg Moeen back to the boundary, Root calls him back in. Stokes sends him back again, only to then call poor Moeen back in to three-quarters.

Jon Dunn: So when this is Test is all said and done England will be no closer to knowing their Ashes XI than they were before.
Brathwaite came down and met the pitch of the ball in Moeen's previous over, so the England spinner throws up a few floaty tempters - but the opener is not in the least bit interested. Yet another maiden for England.

When you play a three-Test series and find yourself 1-0 down very early, it's never going to be easy. It can dampen your confidence in a big way, and Headingley is a pitch that can seem around a bit. If they're struggling here on a flat pitch, it could be even worse in Leeds.

Stokes has a drink delivered to him by the 12th man, takes a few glugs, a big deep breath and runs in to bowl his seventh over. Another maiden. His figures are 7-4-6-1
Chase, still to get off the mark, is happy to get on the back foot and behind the ball. A half-hearted appeal for lbw from Bairstow and the slips, as Stokes gets one to nip back but it's hit Chase high on the thigh pad.

Brathwaite takes a few steps down the wicket to Moeen and drags a delivery from outside off over mid-on for four. He gave that a good old swat.
Stuart Law is one very sad looking coach on the balcony. He's having some time to himself, staring down as he twiddles his thumbs.

West Indies bowlers weren't penetrating enough. They just put it in an area and hoped England would make a mistake. In the batting department, there is no sense of aggression, apart from Jermaine Blackwood.

Roston Chase the new West Indies batsman in. He has an average of 48.53 in Test match cricket but was out for a duck in the first innings. Stokes offers the tall man five short balls, tempting him to play at one, but he sees off the over.
25 minutes to tea.

I'm so accustomed to this sort of performance now that it's not funny.

England could, if required, take an extra half-hour and go through to 22:30.
S Hope c Root b Stokes 4 (WI 60-3)
And he's gone. Stokes has his first wicket of the match. It wasn't an amazing ball, a good length but wide of the off stump. Hope had a flirt. He flirted too hard. It was edged to Root at second slip and the England captain was never going to drop that.

I wondered how the pink ball would go in England - I think it's stood the test. At night time it does a little bit more, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I haven't seen anything untoward with it.

Back-to-back boundaries for Brathwaite off Moeen. Two very different looking fours. The first, he dances down the wicket and drags the ball over a wide mid-on. Some real intent. The second is more classy, drilled through the covers.
West Indies will want to show some fight and steel in this innings, take this game into tomorrow.
As ever, Geoffrey Boycott will be answering your questions during tea on FaceBoycs Live. Just how bad are West Indies? Is two-division Test cricket the future? What to have for your dinner? Send them in and he'll do his best.
The 26-year-old Benjamin Andrew Stokes continues.
There's a couple of short balls, a full delivery, one that nips back a bit, another bouncer and an outside edge towards gully. But there are no runs. Maiden.
