Anderson struggles to control the swing as Jonny Bairstow is forced to tumble in front of Cook at first slip and gather a wide delivery. Just a Brathwaite single from the over
Have spotted Darren Gough in the posh booths, wearing a waistcoat and sipping a pint. I saw a tweet from him the other day asking for recommendations for minibus companies to take him and his chums to Edgbaston. I take it he got it sorted.

Brathwaite 15, Hope 12
Desperately trying to think of some police and cricket based puns here. Careful, they will be after you if you nick it. That was terrible. Sorry.
Change of the bowling as Toby Roland-Jones replaces Stuart Broad and there's runs for the tourists. Two for Hope who works it towards a wide fine leg, followed by a pull shot over the mid-wicket region for four. It was a pretty ordinary ball from Roland-Jones, slow, short and wide. So he goes full and it's driven through cover for another four.
10 from the over.

Big game here. A group of fruits roped a policeman into having a bat. Huge cheers when the young lad in the blue cap took a catch at silly point.

Superb ball from Jimmy - squares up Brathwaite, gets the ball to move away off the wicket as the opener plays inside the line. One for the highlight reel. Anderson then bowls on middle and leg and that is flicked off the legs for four fine runs.

Yesterday, England's bowlers were racing in too much. You get ahead of yourself and end up spraying it all over. There's been a smoothness about them today.
Pitched up from Stuart Broad and that's driven to long-off by Brathwaite for four. Poor ball, but England can afford a few of those. The opener then tucks one off the hips through mid-wicket, adding two more to his score.
Short from Broad and it squares up Brathwaite, a leading edge looping up and falling just short of backward point. A bouncer from Broad follows, have they done their homework on Brathwaite? He doesn't look comfortable playing the short stuff. He's happy to get off the strike by clipping a fuller delivery down to a wide fine leg.

I said that the ball travelled straight into Cook's paws, the replays suggest I was doing him a disservice. It was a well taken, watchful catch low down.
In comes Kyle Hope, the second highest scorer in West Indies' first innings - he got 25. He is off the mark with two after a misfield at mid-wicket.

When you enforce the follow-on, often the first wicket is the hardest thing to take and you can question your decision. The first wicket gets things going.
Powell c Cook b Anderson 10 (WI 15-1)
Edged and caught. That didn't take too long. Maybe this will be over tonight? Anderson bowls a typical Anderson delivery, moving away outside the off stump and Powell with a thick edge which guides the ball straight into Alastair Cook's paws at first slip.

I really hoped West Indies' bowling would have been more challenging. England have to find out more about these batsmen. You suspect they've only got two more innings before the Ashes.
Brathwaite 4, Powell 10
You can tell how relaxed the England players are in the outfield, as they watch the drama in the crowd and giggle away.
Stuart Broad continues, Powell drives on the up and slices it over cover for two. A carbon copy from Powell and this time it flies over gully for four. Streaky, streaky slices. Broad has a word with the opener.

Pretty much everyone in the Hollies Stand is on their feet, singing towards some stewards to give them their beach ball back. Everyone in fancy dress has congregated at the front. Toy soldiers, Dutch footballers, Donald Trumps, Hulk Hogan. It's like the Easter Bunny's wedding.
This Edgbaston crowd really comes alive in the late afternoon/early evening. It seems to coincide with the floodlights coming on. It's fancy-dress Saturday today. There is a strong religious feel - we have monks, popes and priests. Now six bananas decide to join them. Oh wait, three Donald Trumps have also come to the party. And Hulk Hogan too.
Anderson gets one to keep low and it's off the outside edge of Brathwaite's bat for four streaky runs down to third man.

If you have got a team to obliterate, you obliterate them. That is what professional sport is all about. It shows less respect to the opposition to patronise them and say OK, we're going to drag this out. This is really emphasising why West Indies are struggling.
Powell 4, Brathwaite 0
Broad to Powell and the West Indian is off the mark with a drive through point for four. This new pink ball really does race across the outfield.
Nice recovery from Broad, who bowls a fairly controlled over, asking the question outside the line before going straighter.

There are still 64 overs in the day to go.

Brathwaite, on a pair, takes strike. He lets the first ball go by outside the off stump. Anderson moves the ball a bit too much and it's a very smart piece of wicketkeeping from Bairstow, who scrambles and dives to left to save four byes. Oh hold up, just had a look at the replay and UltraEdge is showing there may have been a slight edge. Nobody appealed and there was no sound. Nevertheless, the new ball is moving. Maiden.
