And after a little discussion, the umpires decide it is time for tea.

What a session for West Indies.

Brathwaite and Hope have added 97 runs without the loss of a wicket. It suddenly looks very flat and so far England haven't had any answer.

Told you he was going over the top! Thoroughly earned that - properly constructed innings as an opening batsman. He played it well in the morning to stay in and then in the afternoon he's blossomed.

  3. 100 runs

100 to Brathwaitepublished at 67 overs

Brathwaite isn't going to hang around with part-timer Tom Westley bowling.

He charges down and heaves the off-spinner over long on for six to move to his century.

A brilliant knock and it is appreciated by the Headingley crowd and his teammates who peak their heads out of the dressing room window to applaud.

  4. Brathwaite tucks into Stokespublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

A certain member of the TMS team thinks they could have played this Ben Stokes delivery with a 'stick of rhubarb'. No points for guessing who.

That edge gave Hope another four and he gets a second of the over with a perfect drive straight past the umpire.

Hope steals the strike on the final ball of the over which will annoy Brathwaite on 96 with tea approaching.

He'll be even more frustrated as Tom Westley is being brought into the attack...

  6. WI 192-3published at 65.3 overs

Broad gets another to nibble and it finds the edge! Straight through the gap where a second slip would have been stood.

Ben Stokes who is a little wider at fourth of fifth slip puts his hand over his eyes.

    England are in trouble here.

This is the first time in 23 Test matches West Indies have had a partnership of more than 150 runs. The last time was at Port Elizabeth in 2014 by Brathwaite and Marlon Samuels.

You never want to catch a blinder at bat-pad, because then you'll be there forever.

  9. dropped catch

    WI 188-3published at 65 overs

    Brathwaite 96, S hope 73

That's a chance. A very tough one but a chance nonetheless.

Just after cutting a four Shai Hope goes back to Moeen and tries to flick him off his pads. He hits the ball right out of the middle of the bat and into the midriff of Mark Stoneman at short leg.

Sometimes they will stick, sometimes they don't.

That earlier boundary brought up the 150 partnership between these two.

  10. WI 183-3published at 64 overs

    Brathwaite 96, S Hope 68

Stuart Broad is back into the attack hoping for better fortunes than earlier on. The 31-year-old spends a good while waving his arms around like an orchestra's conductor.

His first ball doesn't do a lot but it finds the leading edge of Brathwaite's bat but just evades the diving Stokes in the gully.

This one has moved. Broad is bowling with that wobble seam and gets one to deviate a long way off the pitch, so far that Brathwaite is in no danger.

Moeen has bowled quite well but hasn't got a wicket, so it puzzles me that he hasn't tried going round the wicket.

  13. WI 181-3published at 63 overs

    Brathwaite 94, S Hope 68

Too full and too wide from Moeen and Hope drives perfectly to pierce the infield.

The batter thinks he has another boundary a ball later but some great fielding on the boundary edge prevents it. Who was that out there? It's Alastair Cook! No wonder I didn't recognise him. It's not often you see him at deep square leg.

That's what happens when you give up the captaincy, ey?

  14. WI 173-3published at 62 overs

    Brathwaite 92, S Hope 62

Those two boundaries have taken Brathwaite into the 90s.

He is no mug. The opener already has one century against England in the Caribbean the last time England toured.

He's closing on a special ton now.

  15. WI 173-3published at 61.3 overs

    Another boundary to the total.

Stokes is sticking with this round the wicket tactic but with the angle this delivery starts wide and just goes wider. Brathwaite helps himself to four.

And again! This one a better shot, a back foot punch.

Joe Root is jogging down for a word with his bowler and vice-captain.

This has been a wonderful day for the West Indies. I said while driving here this morning that whoever won today would win the Test. West Indies have been fantastic. Brathwaite has held it all together. He has played like a proper opener, with determination and a great defence. He has been terrific. The only bowler who has been threatening has been Anderson.

Moeen is racing through his overs - a live texter's nightmare.

The offie found big spin in his opening over in the morning session but he hasn't quite managed that sharp turn since.

As a result the West Indies' duo can just knock singles into the outfield. The turnaround from last week for these two batsmen is remarkable.

This looks like it might be one of those tight games where every run counts and every boundary looks like it might swing the game.

  19. WI 162-3published at 60 overs

    Trail by 96

A change of attack from Stokes as he goes around the wicket to Shai Hope with a leg slip.

He yelps in frustration as he uses the field change as a bluff by bowling a yorker that the West Indian just digs out.

That's a poor shot. Stokes pushes one wider off off stump and Hope has a little waft at it, only connecting with fresh air. That's the first time the ball has beaten the bat for a while.

  20. Not outpublished at 59 overs

Nope. No flicker away from straight in the line of Ultraedge. Stokes was pretty confident but the batsman Brathwaite never looked concerned. A good decision from Sundaram Ravi who had a couple of calls overturned earlier.
