  1. England reviewpublished at 59 overs

England are in desperate need of a wicket and as a result Joe Root has called for a review.

It is a full delivery from Moeen that spins, hits the pad of Brathwaite and is caught by Stokes at slip.

But was there bat/glove as well? The on field umpire doesn't think so.

  2. WI 161-3published at 58 overs

    Brathwaite 81, Hope 61

Stokes' pace is up over 85mph but this slow pitch and a ball nearly 60 overs old means Brathwaite has plenty of time to defend.

These two are playing in a very similar fashion, playing the ball late. I have been impressed with Hope. He has played much better than his average of 18 suggests.

A maiden from Stokes. Time to build pressure with dots in Strauss-Flower style?

Jay: Why isn't Root bowling himself for a few overs? Captaincy doesn't take away a golden arm, does it?

  4. WI 161-3published at 57 overs

    Moeen 7-1-24-0

Moeen Ali too is still attacking with a slip, a short leg and a short mid on but Brathwaite looks comfortable. He calmly blocks the first few balls and knocks a single into the leg side to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Root has his arms folded in the field while chewing on a finger nail. Where can he turn for a wicket?

This is the beauty of Headingley. You felt this morning England could have got half a dozen wickets. Now, this afternoon, the sun has come out, the ball is a little older and they can barely get past the outside edge.

  6. WI 160-3published at 56 overs

    Brathwaite 80, S Hope 61

Can Stokes get the crowd focused back on the battle as the locals try to get a Mexican wave going in the stands?

He starts with a bouncer but it is far shorter than the nasty one he bowled in his previous over and Hope can just duck under.

There are still three slips but they're not seeing much to get them excited after lunch.

    Trail by 98

Four more! Brathwaite gets a big stride in to Moeen and drives in textbook fashion through the covers.

"Catch it," is the cry in Jonny bairstow's Yorkshire accent off the final ball as Mo gets one to turn but it drops harmlessly into the middle of the pitch.

The deficit is now under 100.

  8. WI 156-3published at 54 overs

    Brathwaite 76, S Hope 61

Hope takes his time but is now good to go after that nasty blow. He gets down the other end and that might be a good place to be if he is at all shaken by that previous delivery.

Root and Cook are having a chat in the slips. I wonder what they're discussing. "What would you advise, Chef?", perhaps? In fact, I don't think so. They're having a good chuckle now. Something more light-hearted I'd guess.

Ben Stokes checked the batsman was OK after hitting him on the head. That's nice to see.

  10. ouch!

    WI 154-3published at 53.2 overs

Are we in for a period of Stokes short stuff?

The all-rounder has bent his back, pitched one short and it bangs into Shai Hope's helmet.

That was nasty. The batsman took his eye off it and the ball hit those flaps that are now in place on most modern day helmets.

We're going to have a little pause as the physio jogs out.

Peter: Unsure if England have been over-confident here, or maybe the reports of the death of Test cricket have been greatly exaggerated.

  12. WI 154-3published at 53 overs

    Thanks Jack. A fine job.

How are England fans feeling? Time to get a little worried?

This pair have now put on 119 and West Indies trail by just 104.

As Barney said a couple of overs ago, there has been much talk of England needing an 'XFactor bowler' for the Ashes but they need one right now to break this wicket.

  13. drinks break

Drinks breakpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

And that's drinks. Very much West Indies' hour since lunch. England looking a bit flat.

As am I, having live texted during the regular lunch time - I'm off to find some food so will hand you back over to Matt Henry.

I'll be back for the final session.

    Laters.

  14. WI 154-3published at 53 overs

    Brathwaite 75, S Hope 60

Anderson is taken out of the attack - his afternoon exploits far down on his morning ones.

    Here's Moeen Ali...

Tidy enough from the off-spinner as Brathwaite calmly plays out a maiden.

Barney: This is why it's so important England get Mark Wood fit for the Ashes. Need the extra pace and variety he offers on a flat deck.

  16. WI 154-3published at 52 overs

Just one off that Stokes over - tighter line from the all-rounder but Windies unruffled.

  17. WI 154-3published at 51.2 overs

Stokes bangs one in down leg and Hope chases it - Bairstow catches and goes up.

But it's not out - he wasn't really that near it either.

England will know Jermaine Blackwood is to come and he has a good record against them. If he comes to the crease with the deficit just 50, he could easily push West Indies' total up to 300.

  19. WI 153-3published at 51 overs

Anderson is now coming around the wicket to the right-handed Brathwaite.

I think that's about Plan F for England now. They look bereft of ideas against this pair.

Jimmy gets a couple to swing in but Brathwaite is more than equal to it, before ducking under a bouncer.

A clip off the pads for a single to finish. I think they might have seen off Anderson here, well played.

  20. WI 152-3published at 50 overs

Stokes again - radar still off as he sprays one down leg but Bairstow scrambles well to clasp it one handed and save the byes.

A maiden in the end. Not much threat though.
