  1. Eng 19-2published at 12.5 overs

Shot! Glorious stuff from Westley, rolling back the weeks to his first Test appearance and whips a full delivery away through mid-wicket for four.

Bit of bite from Holder as he throws down the stumps after Westley fends it back to him - the Essex man was easily back in his crease, though.

Sometimes one has your name on it and that certainly had Cook's. It was an absolute beauty, angled in from round the wicket. Cook actually doesn't like that angle, Anderson always bowls round the wicket when they play against each other in county cricket. He's got a lot of success against Cook and likes to remind him about it.

    Cook c Dowrich b Roach 10 (Eng 15-2)

An absolute beauty from Kemar Roach. Unplayable.

Angled in from round the wicket, pitching on off stump but moving away just enough to flick the outside edge of Alastair Cook's bat and flying through to Shane Dowrich behind.

Cook can be susceptible to that angle from round the wicket but that delivery would've removed anyone.

As he tries to find form, it must be natural in Tom Westley's mind to play conservatively and wait for the bad ball. But what he is waiting for? He's blocking half volleys right now.

A shot of England and West Ham keeper Joe Hart in the crowd as Tom Westley takes strike - who's been under more pressure in recent weeks?

Westley brings out a decent-looking drive but picks out the fielder. Hit it harder, fella.

And again, a long hop from Holder is just patted to the man at cover, perhaps a sign of Westley's lack of confidence.

Dig in for now as Holder records a maiden.

  7. Eng 15-1published at 10 overs

    Cook 10, Westley 4

Cook leans on a full ball, knocking it out through the covers for a couple to close the over.

There could be 20 overs left in the day - you'd assume the light will make that unfeasible, though.

    Eng 13-1

A brief moment of worry that Cook's bat was raised as it hit the stumps is quickly assuaged - the bat was grounded and the former skipper was therefore comfortably in.

  9. Umpire reviewpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

An elderly gentleman in the crowd nibbles at a multi-coloured cookie, it's flashness in contrast to the nuggety batting out in the middle.

Ooh, a bit of liveliness as Westley scrambles a quick single and the stumps are thrown down as Cook slides his bat in.

He looks safe but the third umpire is going to have a check...

Windies skipper Jason Holder into the attack - he bowled beautifully at Headingley, making up for his lack of pace with unerring accuracy and seam movement.

The radar isn't quite working early on here - Cook punching him through the covers for two as Blackwood scampers after it and pulls it in before it can reach the fence.

Westley's heart will be in his mouth every time he plays and misses. Cook will be telling him to forget the previous ball. It must be good to have a familiar face at the other end.

Gabriel strays a touch too straight to Westley, who rides the bounce and steers it away fine for a couple.

Eek, a couple of plays and misses follow though - the second one very close to the outside edge.

Neil Farrington: Stoneman being written off, then. That's Stoneman, who made 50 in his last Test innings (that's LAST TEST INNINGS).

Mark: Seems Stoneman's gritty 50 in last Test is already forgotten then....

Attritional stuff so far for England but Alastair Cook has picked up an early boundary, guiding Kemar Roach to the fence...

  16. Eng 8-1published at 17:31 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Cook 6, Westley 1

Familiar formula for Roach against Westley - outswinger, outswinger, target the pads. This time Westley is equal to it, leaning on the third ball to dab a single into the leg-side.

Cook leaves a couple before a mis-timed drive at a wide ball - no danger though as it just rolls out towards point for no run.

West Indies are making England work hard. Runs aren't coming quickly, the batsmen have played and missed. That's all you can do, then cross your fingers and hope to get a nick.

Angus McPhail: Mark Stoneman has now played all of four innings in Test cricket, rushing to drop openers needs to stop, give him an actual run.

  19. Eng 7-1published at 6 overs

Sharp pace from Gabriel here - clocking up one at 92.5mph and following it with a 93.7mph screamer.

Another 93mph ball aimed towards Cook's toes, but the England opener does well to dig it out.

Accurate, quick and not much Cook can do other than fend it off. A maiden.

Greg Double: Stoneman - stone dead. At least he's had the manners to be consistently poor, rather than leading us on that he is the solution.
