Exceptional bowling, quick enough, substantial swing and high skill. Ben Stokes is turning the match firmly England's way.

    Holder b Stokes 9 (WI 119-8)

Move over, James Anderson - Ben Stokes is sending down some swing bowling for the ages today.

Another beauty does for Jason Holder, this time swinging in and beyond the Windies skipper's defences as it clatters into the stumps.

Stokes put a quite staggering amount of curve on that, utterly bamboozling Holder after a series of out-swingers.

  4. WI 119-7published at 55 overs

    Holder 9, Bishoo 9

So here goes Anderson at Bishoo - oh goodness, what a ball. Round the wicket, great line and length, nipping away - Bishoo nowhere near good enough to even nick that.

The number nine survives. For now.

Thanks Jamie - thought you were sure to be on when Anderson got to 500, but plenty of action all the same.

Here is the Lancashire man with the ball in his hands after tea...

Well can Jimmy Anderson pick up that one remaining wicket he needs to reach 500 Test victims? There are three still to take and 36 overs due to be bowled this evening so one thing for sure we will be here for a while. Maybe the West Indies will surprise us again and compile an unbroken century partnership? Highly unlikely on what we have just seen, but here's Jack Skelton to tell you.

It's been really hard going for West Indies today. Good bowling conditions and England have not let them get away at all.

Remember when any England player who could take wickets and get the occasional big score was dubbed the new Ian Botham? Well Chris Lewis was one of the many given that tag. A lot has happened to him since then, namely six years in jail for drug smuggling, and you can discover more of his story in this Stumped podcast.

Here's that dropped catch by the captain against his opposite number shortly before the tea interval. One of the few times you will not see Root smiling broadly. Let's hope there are no repercussions if it hit his hands awkwardly.

All England that session - they could've easily bowled West Indies out before the interval. But the amount of times they beat the outside edge, it feels like a matter of time after tea.

    WI 119-7

As so often occurs in this sometimes cruel world, the ball after the dropped catch is dispatched for four. But a fine session for England, they have taken five wickets for 84 in 34 overs.

It's not the most straightforward catch but it's one that you'd hope someone of the calibre of Joe Root would take.

  13. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Holder on 5

Root to his left at second slip as Holder edges Stokes, he got two hands to it at a comfortable height but it squeezes through.

It almost feels like we need James Anderson's 500th Test wicket to happen in order to get on with the game.

  16. WI 115-7published at 16:09 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Holder 5, Bishoo 9

Another chance for Anderson from the Pavilion End. He has four slips waiting for the left handed Bishoo to edge and there is plenty of swing but nothing on offer in this one. Jimmy will have to wait until the evening session because we will only have time for one more in this session.

Ben Stokes can swing this ball like a banana. It's absolutely hooping around out there. It's almost swinging too much for him to control it. If he gets one straight enough, you fancy it'll be curtains for Devendra Bishoo.

  18. WI 115-7published at 16:05 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Stokes 3-18 (12 overs)

Impressive again from Stokes, there is one at 80mph from round the wicket that fires in on a yorker length but swings away at the last moment and just misses the off pole. Bishoo has no idea, as many wouldn't, scratching at it like a deranged mother hen.

This is a bit too good for tailenders. Save these balls for the top order, Jimmy!

  20. WI 114-7published at 16:01 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Anderson 2-27 (13 overs)

The crowd sense it, there is a buzz of anticipation and it's a good over, Anderson going past the edge repeatedly, but no edge and he remains on 499 Test wickets.
