These are big boundaries here and, with the pitch being a bit sticky and slow, batting second is a better route. I was surprised West Indies batted first.

    Nurse c Root b Rashid 1 (WI 160-7)

It's Lemmings off a cliff here. Ashley Nurse can do nothing in the face of Adil Rashid's control of length and eventually decides to go downtown. A lofted drive is not controlled and ends in the hands of Joe Root, who runs around from long-off towards deep extra cover. The Windies could get bowled out.

It doesn't feel like West Indies are putting anything on the board that will trouble England, especially with the home side's batting.

  5. WI 159-6published at 36 overs

As there were in the Test, there are people on beds as part of a competition run by the new hotel that overlooks Old Trafford. I think I'd feel self-conscious until the booze kicked in. West Indies are going nowhere here. Even the good strokes are finding fielders. They'd bite your hand off for 200.

  6. WI 158-6published at 35 overs

What's the Windian plan here? Knock it around for a few, or swing for Urmston? A slip in place for Rashid as the sun just suggests that it might be thinking about going down. We're clinging on to the summer. Only three from the over.

The pitch has played pretty well and the outfield has been good., You never know what the ball will do when the lights come on, will dew play its part? Will the fielders be slipping about?

  8. WI 155-6published at 34 overs

Ashley Nurse arrives, joining skipper Holder, who is yet to get off the mark. England smell blood and post a slip - Joe Root the catcher who is unable to get a hand on the ball when Holder edges along the ground for four. Eight to go. Ticking down. Run-rate is not above five.

Powell got his head the wrong side of the ball. That was a good catch. England are getting wickets at key times. Whenever you feel West Indies are set, England strike.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.2 overs

    Powell c Willey b Woakes 23 (WI 150-6)

The Windies are in danger of falling in a heap here. Rovman Powell is the latest to go, miscuing Chris Woakes to mid-on. Trying to work the ball, Powell only gets a leading edge and Willey, on the edge of the ring, takes a simple catch. England will be thing about chasing less than 200.

West Indies must be looking at about 230, which they will be delighted with. But if England can get a couple of wickets now, they will be hoping for under 200.

  12. WI 150-5published at 33 overs

    Rashid 7-0-26-1

Jason Holder, the skipper is the new man. The Windies need something from him. They are in danger of falling short. There are only nine overs to go.

This has been the story of the innings, as soon as the batsmen get in, they get out. England have been pretty good since the shock of Gayle earlier. They have varied their bowling nicely.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 32.2 overs

    Mohammed c Hales b Rashid 18 (WI 149-5)

Holed out. Jason Mohammed tries to tickle the gas but only succeeds in finding Alex Hales on the leg-side fence. A slog-sweep at Adil Rashid comes of the tow of the bat and goes miles high onto the Manchester sky. Hales settles himself and takes the ball even though it rattles around is his hands. He made a tricky catch look straightforward.

The West Indies have quite a long tail but Powell and Mohammed need to make the most of this partnership, which is starting to flourish.

  16. WI 149-4published at 32 overs

The crowd are just starting to get into it. They have been in the ground for some time, after all. Just approaching peak lubrication. Rovman Powell swings at Woakes and gets nothing. If he'd wound up any further he'd have been in danger of dislocating a shoulder. OK from Woakes. Only two from it, including a wide.

    Mohammed 17, Powell 22

England turn to the leggies of Adil Rashid, with Powell immediately looking like he's been presented with some particularly tough long division. Mohammed, though, pounces on a long hop and swats it over deep mid-wicket for six. It's only anecdotal, but I'm not seeing a lot of love for Tom Westley on the England Ashes selector...

  19. WI 138-4published at 30 overs

The sun pokes out as Chris Woakes takes over from Ben Stokes. Maybe they want Woakes bowling to keep his butter-fingers away from the boundary rope. Mohammed, more slightly built than Powell, pokes the ball into the off side and sets off. Powell, a man who looks like he wants pace on the ball, edges through the vacant slips for four.
