Overs will be reducedpublished at 12:46 BST 2 June 2017
Update: It's not raining hard, maybe a very light drizzle.
But we have lost enough play for the number of overs to be reduced.
Whenever play does start, we won't be seeing 50-over innings.
Highlights on BBC Two at 00:20 BST (UK only)
Williamson starred with 100 for New Zealand
Hazlewood took 6-52 for Australia

Devil's Advocate: Warner: 'What do you mean Joe Root has been on the weights and is looking for me?'
Nice, I like it. Can anyone do better? #bbccricket
There was a lifeline for Ronchi though as Australia made a mess of this run-out chance.
But brownie points for him, presuming he was willing to sacrifice his wicket for his captain.
There were some question marks when New Zealand opted to bat in overcast conditions.
But aside from Guptill's dismissal, they have had a fairly good morning.
Fellow opener Luke Ronchi slapped quickie Pat Cummins high and long and it was well taken by the chap in the stands.
He's now had his minute of fame which I'm sure he'll not stop talking about for years to come. Mind you, he only just held on!
Just a reminder... Zafar Ansari is waiting for your questions now. He's doing a Facebook live, while sat next to the live text team. Head over here., external
So a reminder of what has happened so far today before rain hit ...
There has been one wicket to fall - New Zealand opener Martin Guptill looked in good nick before a leading edge off Josh Hazlewood.
So the covers are still on, brollies are still out and there are still raindrops on the camera lenses.
The rain does seem a bit thinner now so fingers crossed!
The caption to this picture states that David Warner is attempting a catch off Luke Ronchi. We prefer to imagine he's jumping out of the way of a giant spider.
When the electronic scoreboard unintentionally rubs it in...

Mike Bell: Edgbaston has dreadful weather luck. Any stats on which English ground has lost most international cricket time in the last 10 years?
We've got a little treat for those of you who are on Facebook. Former England Test cricketer Zafar Ansari will be joining us for a Facebook live. He'll be parked next to the live text team, so if you've ever wondered how we operate, now's your chance to ask the question.
You've probably seen the highlights of England's victory over Bangladesh by now (they're here, if not), but here's a nice little package of Ben Stokes clashing with Tamim Iqbal. It's fair to say things got a little heated.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it does look a little bit grim at Edgbaston...

Remember when India shocked the cricketing world? No, we don't either. It was 1983. Luckily, TMS were there - and we've revived it as our latest TMS Gold offering. Enjoy.

It's been an odd morning for Australia. Steve Smith said his side wanted to bowl first - just as well, because they lost the toss and New Zealand asked them to do exactly that - but they've not quite hit their lengths.
Starc has been too full, Hazlewood too wide and it's allowed New Zealand to get their eye in. Mind you, I'm not sure there's too many excuses, from anyone involved, for this awful bit of cricket...

Inzamam and run-outs always seemed to be a combination!

While we wait for the rain to clear, a quick word for Luke Ronchi, who is currently on 24 from 17 deliveries.
He's hit three boundaries and one six and - at the risk of tempting fate - he's looked in good touch against an off-colour Australia side.
There was this early wobble, and props to David Warner for a cracking pick up and throw...
Before Ronchi, as casual as you like, struck this six off a 90mph delivery from Pat Cummins.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
Interesting choice from Williamson to bat first.
With rain predicted later, Duckworth-Lewis favours the side batting second, that's for sure.
