I love that intent from Azhar Ali. He clears his front leg and gets quick hands through the ball, plastering the point region. Great shot.

    Target 289 off 41 overs

Sunshine, we have sunshine! It's looking a fine summer's evening now.

In comes Jasprit Bumrah for his first over of the day.

Azhar plants his feet and slashes at one outside off, cutting it through point for four.

Pakistan will need more of that. Much more of that.

    Target 289 off 41 overs

Bhuvneshwar finishes off his over after that delay, a drive from Azhar Ali for no run.

So, four bowlers can bowl eight overs, one bowler can bowl nine overs.

That doesn't seem like they've taken off in many runs. They've got fewer overs, but that can be easier if you've still got all your wickets in hand.

  6. A new target ...published at 16:53 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Pakistan's target is 289 runs from 41 overs.

That's a further 267 runs from 36.1 overs with 10 wickets in hand.

  7. 16:55 BST restart remainspublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Raj is right. It is clearing up and that 16:55 BST restart stands.

So, barring any more showers, we will see this match resume in about five minutes.

It's stopped raining in Smethwick. That's where the weather is coming from.

  9. More rain ...published at 16:46 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Oh, this is getting silly now.

They were all set for the covers to come off and it only went and started raining again.

Frustrating for the players, frustrating for the crowd and I'm sure it's frustrating for all you following this live text.

It does seem brighter out there and I am hopeful we will see a result today.

Francis Edwards: I do wonder why they host these things in England. These games should have winners and D/L is a stupid/unfair system.

  11. Play to restart at 16:55 BSTpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

So play will restart in about 15 minutes. We hope!

Still not sure on how many overs will be lost and the new target, will let you know as soon as we do.

  12. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

No update for you on the rain yet I am afraid, but IF the chase is reduced to 30 overs, the target will be revised to 229.

Pakistan fans, you'd take that wouldn't you?

Oh Aggers, that doesn't bode well. Can't say it wasn't coming though. Although it does seem like it's fairly light rain. We will have to wait and see what this does to the target/overs.

It's raining quite heavily over the city of Birmingham. The buildings in the distance are barely visible.

Rain stops play - Pak 22-0published at 4.5 overs

    Target 324 off 48 overs

Tidy ... as Nessa from Gavin and Stacey would say. Good over from Bhuvneshwar, just the one leg bye from the first five balls ... but, hold on ....

Rain! They're off. Covers are on.

I accept DLS, but frankly, and without wishing to sound too dim, really can't understand why Pakistan need to get 324 rather than 320. They both have 48 overs (rain dependent) so why the increase? I don't think it's a particularly fair system, though I do realise the need for it.

Ooh, hello! A bit of movement for Yadav as Azhar plays inside it. Could have easily got an edge.

Another one angles in as Azhar goes to pull and it ricochets off the thigh. But he gets hold of the next one, pulling it high and through for four.

There's a bit of bhangra dancing going on from some fans in one of those posh looking VIP booths.

Kohli has always got something going on. He's an arm-waver. he must be exhausted at the end of the day.

  20. Pak 15-0published at 3 overs

Pakistan need 324 to win off 48 overs

Bhuvneshwar continues, Kohli orchestrates his field. The India skipper is looking calm and collected.

Shehzad works it onto leg for three. Would have been four were it not for a sliding Bumrah on the ropes.

Five from the over. Openers looking solid, if not spectacular. Nothing silly.

    That cloud is getting darker.
