Malik run out 15 (Pak 114-4)

Absolutely brilliant! Ravi Jadeja has run out Shoaib Malik with a wonderful direct hit. Malik sets off for a single, but gets sent back. Jadeja, at point, moves to his left, gathers and throws in one motion. He's got maybe a stump and a half to aim at, but the zing bails are still sent into the air. It's like watching Jonty Rhodes.

To mitigate against the impact of rain in ODIs, how about this: Team A bat their first 20 overs. Team B bat all their 50 overs. Team A bat remaining 30. Result becomes possible as long as both teams face at least 20 overs. DL or similar when overs faced are unequal. Would this be possible?

  3. Pak 113-3published at 23 overs

That Malik six got lost under the covers in front of the sightscreen. A burly security chap in a luminous vest was sent to get it, but then seemed to get in a row with someone. "I don't care who you are, finding the ball is not in my job description." He's probably thinking that the rain delays have kept him from his Sunday dinner.

Shoaib Malik made his debut in 1999, batting at number 10. Since being recalled to the team two years ago, he averages 59 in 32 ODIs with a strike-rate of 101 - including a century against the West Indies this year. He's Pakistan's most in-form batsman.

Ravi Jadeja has a stunning array of poor hairstyles. He has a different one for each series he plays in. Today's slicked-back barnet makes him look like an extra from Chicago. Hafeez skips down the track to take four over extra cover and Malik follows follows with a might wallop downtown. Maybe there's a flicker in this one...

Drummers thumping away happily in the Hollies Stand and impromptu dancers moving with them as India's grip on this match tightens. Ice-creams being waved, flags brandished.

    Need 187 from 114 balls

Cheers, Kal. I think we're pretty much agreed that Pakistan aren't getting these, right? If this match does meander to a finish, it will do so in the best weather of the day. The sun is bright enough to burn your eyes out. Shoaib Malik could yet give it some humpty. A slapped drive is followed with a tickle fine for successive boundaries off Pandya.

Shoaib Malik the new man in.

    20 overs to go.

I will now leave you with Stephan Shemilt to see out the rest of this game.

That's a big blow. Pandya judged the catch really well. It feels like a big moment in this game.

Azhar played really well. He's come into the side and scored a 50 at a decent rate. He did, however, recognise that he needed to get a move on. He was probably feeling the pressure from the other end too.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 20.5 overs

    Azhar c Pandya b Jadeja 50

That's 50 and out for the opener. Moments after reaching his half-century, he sweeps one out to deep midwicket and is easily caught by Pandya.

This run chase just got a whole lot harder.

  12. Pak 88-2published at 20 overs

    Pakistan struggling here.

There were a total of nine dot balls in a row before Hafeez ends the over with a single.

He keeps the strike, much to the dismay of his home fans.

  13. Babar's misjudgementpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Pakistan fans were excited when Babar, with an ODI average of 55, arrived at the crease. Unfortunately for them, he didn't last very long. Not the greatest of shots this.

India won't be happy with their fielding performance, it's much below the standard that they've been setting for the past couple of years.

  15. Pak 87-2published at 19 overs

    Target 289 off 41 overs

Hafeez pulls for four. Nice shot, but another bit of poor fielding from the Indians.

Jadeja loves an appeal. He wraps Azhar on the pads who looks to sweep, Umpire Dharmasena not interested.

    Azhar 49, Hafeez 8

That lull continues as Pakistan look to consolidate after them two wickets.

Azhar Ali closing in on his half-century as he moves to 49.

Lots of blue skies and sunshine now. It must also be said both sets of fans have really been in good form, you can see a wave of green and blue shirts intermixed all over Edgbaston.

  19. Pak 79-2published at 17 overs

    Target 289 off 41 overs

We see some spin now as Jadeja comes in and races through his six deliveries. The highlight being a leg-before appeal with very little conviction.

Three from it as the rate continues to rise for Pakistan.

Yuvraj not so much demonstrated his age, but the generation he grew up in. He looked ill at ease.
