Sarfraz is a very busy captain for Pakistan. He's always waving and shouting instructions. He's the opposite of MS Dhoni who just stood still.

  2. Ind 230-2published at 42 overs

    Kohli 41, Yuvraj 26

Mohammad Amir, the star of the Pakistan attack, called upon once more in the storm of noise. He falls into the same trap as Wahab, serving up a pie of a slower ball that Yuvraj pulls for four. Stick to shoving it up him! Jets of fire from the flame throwers. Petrol companies are doing well out of this tournament.

Virat Kohli has been keeping his powder dry but I expect he'll go for it shortly.

  4. Ind 222-2published at 41 overs

More pace - it's perhaps all we'll see for the rest of this innings. Hasan Ali with his awkward right-armers. Blimey, that's unlucky. A rapid yorker, Yuvraj somehow inside-edging past the stumps for four. Hasan probably shouldn't feel too hard done by, though. If he'd held this, Yuvraj wouldn't be batting...

Indian supporters outnumbering Pakistan's by about four to one in the Edgbaston stands. Flags fluttering, horns honking, vuvuzelas droning.

  6. Ind 213-2published at 40 overs

    Kohli 35, Yuvraj 15

Remember, this match is down to 48 per side, so India, with eight wickets in hand, have licence to go all Dizzee Rascal. Wahab Riaz, though, is keeping a lid on Yuvraj Singh. Short, Yuvraj flapping. Ooohs and aaahs from the crowd. Stick to the pace, Wahab. When he sends down a slower ball, Yuvraj slaps it for four.

That sums up Pakistan: today there's been a missed run out, a dropped catch and their fielding has not been at its best.

It was a straightforward catch. Hasan Ali slaps his thigh in disappointment. He had it all lined up and he's dropped a goober.

Oh, that's a goober. Yuvraj Singh gets a life. Down the track to Shadab Khan, miscue, Hasan Ali at long-off. He slides, needlessly, gets both hands to it and then puts the leather on the turf. Shadab, the 18-year-old, ends with 1-52. Should have been more.

Yuvraj was tested with some short stuff by England in the one-day series before the IPL and he rose to the occasion. He played well in the IPL and India are enjoying having his experience in the middle order.

  11. Ind 202-2published at 38 overs

Looking again, Rohit went on Kohli's call and was flat out for as long as possible. There's not much more he could have done. If his bat hadn't bounced just short of the line, he'd have been gravy. Wahab Riaz to new man Yuvraj. Expect some chin music. Sure enough, when Wahab goes short Yuvi doesn't look keen, but a full ball is whipped for four.

Kassim Patel: Mickey Arthur: "The plan you ask? Just keep praying for the rain boys, we've got this!"

John Smith: Sack Edgbaston off as an international venue? Best atmosphere in the country, and England's favourite ground for wins. Nonsense.

Yuvraj Singh the new man. Not really the sort to be running sharp singles.

There's a possibility that the ridge on the back of the bat was touching a blade of grass but the overwhelming likelihood is that he was out.

Rohit run out 91 (Ind 192-2)

Huge, huge bonus for Pakistan and an awful way for Rohit Sharma to go. He was called through for the shortest of singles by Virat Kohli. Usain Bolt would have struggled to make it, but when the skipper wants one, you run. The dive was full length and a flat blade of wood would have seen him home. However, the curve of the willow meant no part was over the line.

Rohit has put the dive in, the bat is over the line, but the curve of the blade means no part is on the ground. Trouble...

Kohli is dabbing and scampering, Rohit is the big bopper. Both men are underneath sleeveless sweaters - chilly. Short single, Rohit dives. I think he's in, but we'll look again...
