Lots of umbrellas up in the crowd. Strangely, there's a lot of people wearing shades too...
My word, it looks 'orrible out there. Very, very dark with white sheets now covering the entire square and the bowlers' run-ups. This will not be a short delay.

How unlucky has Edgbaston been in the last few years? They've had so many games washed out. This isn't looking ideal. Obviously it costs Edgbaston financially.
Ind 173-1
Here it comes. The wet stuff is falling and the players are heading off. There's no massive urgency, it's not the big drops, but enough to halt play. I'm not sure that's good for Pakistan, they had control then...

Pakistan must be hoping for rain already!

It's been good stuff from Pakistan for a few overs now. Nothing fancy, just stump-to-stump, good length. The rain is threatening, spots once again falling from the sky. The forecast was filthy. Rohit just seems to have lost his rhythm, a bit like a broken metronome. Not timing it, not finding the middle. Another good over from Hasan Ali. Two from it. The umpires are getting together...

Ibrahim Hoti: If Pakistan lose this one, can we still really call this match-up a rivalry?
Just the one wicket to fall today. Shikhar Dhawan didn't know whether to hit a Shadab Khan full-toss for four or six. Instead, he got out.

India look to be on course for a total in the region of 340 if they can get stuck into Pakistan in these final 18 overs.
Ind 171-1
The floodlights are on, peering down from the slate Birmingham sky. Amir, dark hair, handsome stubble, skates in. Full length, boundaries now harder to come by. That's more like it - a half-tracker is uppercut to the fence by Kohli. Time for a drink.

Mohammedayez: I have a feeling there may be a batting collapse today ...more likely Pakistan than India!
On the subject of strange things given to you by a cricketer, former Nottinghamshire off-spinner Jason Brown once gave me a pair of green batting pads. More pace, Hasan Ali. A vicious bumper has Rohit ducking. Only two runs from the past two overs.
Amir 5-1-15-1
Apparently, our Jonathan Agnew has used the driveway of an Edgbaston resident to park his car today. In return, Aggers gave the chap a signed book (presumably a book Aggers wrote). That's got me thinking, what's the strangest thing you've been given by a cricketer? Pakistan do turn to pace, Mohammad Amir. Skiddy left-armers, only one run from it.

Jay: If Pakistan are to have any chance, they need at least 6 players around Kohli and one hovering over him to put pressure on him.
Naveed Afzal: I always want an Eng v Pak final (when possible) but one looks destructive and the other can't even do the basics.
Rohit 74, Kohli 15
Curious that Pakistan haven't tried pace at Kohli yet. If you were Virat, what would you prefer to face? If you were Virat, you probably wouldn't be able to nip to the newsagents without being spotted. Shadab's leggies have been tidy, mind. He has a spidery, whippy action. All arms.
Still Imad, the man born in Swansea. He's got a wonderful middle parting, like he could have been in a 1990s boyband. Kohli, himself a rockstar, plays the most delicious late cut to pick up his first boundary. India are going to get 350. You heard it here first...

I spent some time with Virat Kohli during the IPL and the pressure on his shoulders is quite incredible really.
