We've had some movement from the England dressing room: Sam Billings and David Willey are lugging a huge container full of drinks down the stairs. And here come the umpires, followed by the England fielders and New Zealand openers Luke Ronchi and Martin Guptill.

Ben Stokes was in good form today in what was his first hit of the Champions Trophy. His 48 came from 53 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes, before he was dismissed by Boult.

There was nothing to suggest we'd get back on but all of a sudden we can see blue sky. The tarpaulins are slowly being taken off and rope is being dragged around.

  4. Restart at 15:15published at 15:08 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

We have a start time of 15:15. Sunshine above Cardiff now. It's June, in case you'd forgotten, thanks to this 'orrible spell of weather.

  5. sun

Good news! The sun is out. Mind you, the wind is still howling across the ground. Water everywhere.

While we're waiting for the rain to go, I'd like to talk about Trent Boult. Not only did he bowl a cracking final over, England sneaking just three runs from it, he's a real livewire in the field, as seen today.

  7. It's rainingpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

Ah. We've had a slight delay to the restart time - it'll be 15:05 now after that little shower. Although, having said that, it's just started raining again...

If I were Buttler or Morgan, I'd be livid with Wood and Ball. They needed to do one thing and get Buttler back on strike. Each of their shots were unacceptably poor in their own right

Cheers, Steph. We've had a bit of rain in the innings break but the big covers are off. I think England have got enough here, but Williamson is the key for New Zealand.

We could solve the slow over rate by reducing the overs batted by the team bowling first e.g. If you finish at 2:15 you only get 47 overs to bat in reply. The team bowling second loses runs from their total if they bowl too slowly in reply e.g. Finish 15 mins late and lose 18 runs if you scored at 6 per over when you batted. Fines are not working!

Corey Anderson is a bruiser, he can certainly hit the ball, but whether he can do that on a slower pitch like this, we'll wait and see. New Zealand have those big all-rounders at six, seven and eight but it depends if they can get in the game.

England opener Alex Hales, who made 56: "I feel good personally and we're batting well as a unit at the moment. Jason Roy is going through a tough time but I have no doubt that a big score is round the corner for him and he'll come out the other side of it. If we bowl well, 310 should be a good score."

It was effective bowling by Boult, just to mix it up a bit, when you don't know what's coming at you. New Zealand were relatively successful in the tactics they employed.

It was interesting to watch Trent Boult bowl in the last few overs. The field was set for shorter pitched bowling but he still wasn't afraid to get the ball up and back his skills in bowling yorkers.
