If I was Kane Williamson I'd be getting very anxious about his side's slow over-rate.

50 for Jos Buttlerpublished at 47 overs

    Eng 291-7

Check the man's DNA. I'm not sure he's human. A 41-ball half-century completed with a cut over long-off for six. He's basically hit a forehand out of the park.

  3. Eng 284-7published at 46.3 overs

Get those fielders on the boundary! A pull from Liam Plunkett, past two boundary riders who might as well be statues.

What an amazing shot. It's almost a direct hit on a camera man up there! Such a clever shot.

    Buttler 46 from 38

Lots of chat about New Zealand's over rate. Remember, this one should have been done by 14:00. The innings might not end before the Kiwi reply was due to start. Yorkers from Trent Boult, enough to keep Jos Buttler quiet. Did I say quiet? Incredible stroke! Buttler hasn't just scooped this for six, he's nearly taken out a cameraman on top of the sightscreen. How is that even possible?

Blustery breeze whipping the trees in Bute Park, sunshine chasing showers through Sophia Gardens. And it is New Zealand with the wind at their backs, England all big starts but too few finishes.

  7. Eng 268-7published at 45 overs

Southee continues to bang it in. He'll have to be very short to new man Liam Plunkett, who is built like a skyscraper. Buttler swipes, tennis-style, past the dive of Martin Guptill. If Guptill had been right on the boundary he would have stopped that.

New Zealand are some way behind the rate. It could be changed if the umpires were more vigilant and let the captains know exactly where they stand.

Like when Oasis released Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants. Bad review.

That was almost as bad a review as Rashid's.

Kane Williamson is having a crack at a review because there's nothing to be lost and plenty to be gained.

And another review. Has Buttler top-edged this to the keeper? Tim Southee the bowler. He comes from the Stuart Broad School of Reviewing...

That's about the plumbest review you can ever have.

Rashid lbw Santner 12 (Eng 260-7)

Yep, it just looked out. Little skidder from Mitchell Santner, Adil Rashid missing it. Would have hit middle stump halfway up. Every time England get some momentum, they lose a wicket.

  16. Umpire reviewpublished at 43.6 overs

    Eng 260-6

This looks very out. Rashid pinned by Santner. Finger up, but, after a chat with Buttler, Rashid rolls the dice...

    England are looking busy again.

  18. Eng 260-6published at 43.5 overs

Santner, following the New Zealand left-arm spin tradition of looking like a student, varies his pace, only to be dabbed for four by Rashid. The Yorkshireman has added some impetus - already he's scoring at better than a run a ball. Has it stopped raining? I'm not sure if I care anymore. So long as they're playing cricket...

Planet KELT-9b is probably a tad too warm at 4000 deg C. No rain around though.

    John D

    Here is said planet.

  20. Eng 250-6published at 43 overs

End-game. Long square boundaries. Expect it to be banged in. It's raining pretty heavily, but that doesn't stop Buttler top-edging over the keeper for four. Sun last over, rain this. Four seasons in a day. I say Buttler top-edged, but it was actually straight off his helmet. A header into the back of the net.
