How important will that final over from England be in the match's final reckoning? In a game where every run counts, having Buttler face just one of a possible six - and just a solitary single coming from it - feels horribly wasteful.

Jos Buttler doesn't even get an opportunity to see out the final balls of the over. 310 all out is a steady score but England will be very upset that they didn't see out their full compliment of deliveries.

About even? It didn't feel that England batted too well - they were always being pulled back. Then again, they've got more than 300. New Zealand will have to bat well to get them.

It's one of those totals that New Zealand might feel it's possible to chase down if they do things properly in the first 25 overs.

Ball c Boult b Southee 0 (Eng 310 all out)

All over! Another golden duck and Jos Buttler is left high and dry. A short ball to Jake Ball, who can only fend to a flying Trent Boult just behind square on the leg side. A decent score for England, but what if Buttler had been able to face three more deliveries?

Short but not enough width for the cut shot. It was a baseball shot from Mark Wood. The important thing is it keeps Buttler at the non-striker's end.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 49.2 overs

    Wood c Taylor b Southee 0 (Eng 310-9)

Gone first ball. Mark Wood tries a cut but splices straight to Ross Taylor at cover. Will Jos Buttler get back on strike? Jake Ball has a job to do...

  8. Eng 310-8published at 49.1 overs

A huge swing at Southee, but only a single.

  9. Eng 309-8published at 49 overs

Mark Wood the new man. Last over. More Buttler magic?

It's been an important innings by Plunkett. Exactly what England needed to support Buttler at the end of this innings. A good catch from Southee, too - some interference from a sun that has just popped out.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 49 overs

    Plunkett c Southee b Milne 15 (Eng 309-8)

Well held. Liam Plunkett's cameo comes to an end, a mishit well taken by Tim Southee at mid-on. That partnership was worth 49 in five overs.

  12. Eng 308-7published at 48.4 overs

England are running well. It's pretty much two a ball.

Chaos out there. Umpire Bruce Oxenford's hat has blown to the boundary.

A telegraphed short delivery, into the body, and that allowed Plunkett to get all his body behind it and heave it for six.

Sixer! Milne pulled for six by Plunkett. 300 up.

That was an excellent over from Boult and, in even better news for New Zealand, Plunkett has kept the strike.

  18. Eng 294-7published at 48 overs

This is a very good over from Trent Boult. Left-arm over, wide yorkers to a pair of right-handers. Only three from it. Golden at this stage in the proceedings.

  20. Eng 292-7published at 47.3 overs

From nowhere, England have crept up towards 300. Nowadays they get runs even when they don't bat well.
