Josh Roberts: England letting a good start peter out here - I wouldn't be comfortable defending anything below 350 with Ball in the attack
Buttler 20, Rashid 2
The sun is out, but that's not much good for England. Remember, they were 118-1. Mitchell Santner rolls out some non-turning left-armers, but a swatting Jos Buttler can't get the ball away. Only four from the over. England are braking when they should be thinking about flying.
Ed Smith
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
My guess would be Buttler would want to bat normally - at a lower risk - for five or six overs, before reaching the level he'd have reached round about now if he was batting with the top order.
Anderson 9-0-55-3
Can you imagine an old-school fast bowler taking that catch? Fred Trueman wouldn't have even fetched it from the boundary, let alone try to catch it. Looking again, Moeen wasn't whipping, it was a full-blooded hook. He drowned in honey to a long-hop. Adil Rashid is the new man. England are in trouble.
Jeremy Coney
Ex-New Zealand captain on Test Match Special
That was a brilliant catch. Trent Boult is a very good fielder and a very good athlete. He moves quickly and Moeen got a piece of that. Another wicket falls, and that's the chipping away process we were talking about.
Moeen c Boult b Anderson 12 (Eng 230-6)
Whadda catch! Moeen Ali falls to some filthy bowling by Core Anderson, all thanks to a flying Trent Boult. Nothing more than a leg-stump half-tracker, Moeen whipping it round the corner. Boult, at short fine leg, flies high to his left, plucking the ball out of the air like a goalkeeper leaping towards the top corner. Awesome.
Andy Zaltzman
BBC Test Match Special statistician
Technically speaking, that was a thwack from Moeen.
There it is! Moeen Ali! Corey Anderson monstered over mid-wicket for six.

Stephen Lee: Here's the snowed off Derbys vs Lancs game at Buxton in 1975. Sat was a scorcher, Monday it snowed and we were skittled on Tues!
Boult 8-0-43-1
I can't decide if the pitch is sluggish or if New Zealand have changed their pace well. Probably a bit of both. England certainly haven't always timed the ball well. Trent Boult, left-arm over, the sort of fella you'd allow to take your daughter to chess club. Only four singles. Wait, wait, wait for a boundary. It was Boult who did for Ben Stokes...

Kane Williamson has rotated his bowlers well. The maximum spell we've had is Tim Southee's five overs. He's keeping England thinking with the rotation of his bowlers.
Kane Williamson is a cricketing Claudio Ranieri, a proper tinkerman. A bowling change almost every over. Now it's Corey Anderson in front of a quiet Cardiff - probably because England are on the back foot, probably because it's feezing cold. No boundary for 26 deliveries.
Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
Ben Stokes is batting with an air of arrogance these days. He looked brilliant. It's horrible for a bowler when somebody is so dominant at the other end they are swaggering about the place. He's like Matthew Hayden when he's in form, or Mark Waugh at his best. He's got an arrogant swagger about him.
Boult 7-0-39-1
Looking again, Stokes couldn't have picked out Milne with more accuracy. The ball was so high when he made contact, above his head. Moeen Ali is the new man. Lots on this pair now, especially with no Chris Woakes to come in next.
Ed Smith
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
That's a huge moment in the game. Ben Stokes was looking imperious. He can't believe he's done that.
Stokes c Milne b Boult 48 (Eng 210-5)
What a way to go! What a huge moment in this match! Ben Stokes looking for a half-century, ramps a Trent Boult bouncer, eyeing the short boundary. However, he only succeeds in picking out Adam Milne at third man. Catching practice. England lose another set batsman.

On the subject of cricket in the cold: I believe that games of cricket have been played at both the North and South Poles.
Simon Gregson, Buckinghamshire
Stokes 48, Buttler 9
Raining again, drops falling as a sweater-wearing Jos Buttler scratches at his guard. Adam Milne charges in as New Zealand struggle to get all of their overs bowled in time. This innings is supposed to be done by 14:00. No chance. Buttler works for a pair of twos. Seven from the over.

Jack Martelli: Practice yesterday was ruined by the rain in Northern Ireland
This is a delicious moment, Kane Williamson dangling the carrot of Mitchell Santner's left-arm spin. England are in the Garden of Eden, Santner is the serpent. Stokes, all tattoo and bicep, doesn't bite the apple. Here's that dismissal of Root again. Pretty ugly for such an aesthetically-pleasing player.
