Pakistan's length has been outstanding, they've been wicket to wicket, created pressure. South Africa have lost to the pressure, maybe trying to get 280/290 when it's a 250 wicket.

They will take 210 at this stage.

  2. SA 126-6published at 33 overs

    Hasan 6-1-13-3

Still Hasan Ali, his black mop bouncing as he storms to the crease. Morris is middling the ball, but every shot seems to find a fielder. It's windy, but the sky is blue. Don't worry about the rain. Hasan cranks the speedo to 85, 86. It's the only thing that is going upwards. We've only had five runs in four overs after Hasan did the damage with two in two.

Considering Pakistan's current batting, anything over 175 runs by SA should be defendable.

How do South Africa play the leggie? Chris Morris must be dying to whack him to Smethwick. Go on, Chris. He's only 18. You can biff this wherever you like. Every dot ball cheered. South Africa must feel like they haven't got a friend in the Midlands. This, right now, is the best cricket of the tournament so far.

South Africa haven't been able to break the shackles since the eighth over, since Amla got out.

It's been hard work, Pakistan have great energy, skill and have used the surface well.

  6. SA 121-6published at 32 overs

    Hasan 5-1-10-3

Good lord. Is the same set of players that were shellacked by India? Hasan Ali is bowling like Waqar Younis. Sarfraz Ahmed is skippering like Mike Brearley. The whole team are fielding like Jonty Rhodes. Edgbaston is baying. We might as well be in Lahore. Hasan tears in but Miller, built like a wardrobe, survives. A maiden, mind.

The pressure is on Miller. Morris will play his natural game, he doesn't know anything else. He will look to attack. Miller will try to bat, he's a natural scorer.

  8. Hat-trick ballpublished at 31.1 overs

Ooooohhhhhh! Full and straight, but dug out by Miller.

Sarfraz has shuffled his bowlers nicely, compared to the India game. I like spin at one end and seam at the other, otherwise the batsmen can get comfortable.

  10. SA 120-6published at 30 overs

Two in two balls from Hasan Ali. He'll be on a hat-trick from the first ball of the next over. The first wicket, Duminy, looked like the batsman had his shoelaces tied together. No feet. The next delivery, to bowl Parnell, was wonderful. It would have done for a much better player. Chris Morris has joined David Miller. Shadab Khan is on - Miller can't pick his googly. Hasan hat-trick ball coming up...

It's a beautiful delivery. Just held its line, nipped away slightly. Wow. He's looked good, bowled with some zip.

South Africa find themselves in a very horrible position.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 29 overs

    Parnell b Hasan 0 (SA 118-6)

Bowled him! Neck and crop! Off stump all over the place! Wayne Parnell gets a golden duck and Hasan Ali has produced an absolute ripper. Round the wicket again, pitching and straightening, making a horrible mess of the timber. Edgbaston is rocking. South Africa are all over the shop. Pakistan are rampaging.

Duminy was caught on the crease, expecting the short ball. A good move by the captain and a great catch at slip. South Africa under the pump.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 28.5 overs

    Duminy c Babar b Hasan 8 (SA 118-5)

Gone! Pakistan have another and South Africa are having their bellies tickled. Hasan Ali is round the wicket, getting a nothing shot from JP Duminy. It's a drive at a ball that isn't there, a thick edge well pouched Babar Azam at slip.

South Africa pulling a South Africa and Pakistan doing a Pakistan. Why are we even surprised by these two anymore?

  16. SA 118-4published at 28.4 overs

David Miller has got wide shoulders. There probably isn't much room in a double bed when he's in there. Hasan Ali continues to bang the ball in. Is it right that South Africa are only playing in yellow today because their usual green clashed with Pakistan? They look like they've had to borrow some kit from Norwich City.

Good intent from David Miller but it was gutsy to take on the long-on fielder. In this situation, that probably wasn't the smartest option.

  18. 6 runs

    SA 114-4published at 28 overs

    Miller 29, Duminy 6

Mohammad Hafeez, the run-up of a man wearing carpet slippers, to finish his excellent spell of 10 successive overs. Miller sends him away with a whomp over long-on, but Hafeez still finishes with 1-51. He didn't bowl against India. How odd. South Africa will be glad to see the back of him. Expect to see some of Shadab Khan's leg-breaks soon.

Miller and Duminy don't play the short stuff well. When I was part of the England team, our plan was to push the pair of them back and then have a slip in place.

  20. SA 106-4published at 27 overs

This game, by the way, could have some ramifications for England. We know that England will top their group and so play the second-placed team from Group B. That could turn out to be the winners of this one. Hasan Ali is cranking it up and bowling with some wheels. A bumper threatens the bonce of David Miller. Only a single from it.
